That Sri Lanka is a pluralistic nation is an undeniable fact. It is the home of many communities which have contributed to its being for a long time. It is this variety, this unity in diversity, which gives it strength and beauty. In this multi-ethnic social environment, members of all communities live in peace and harmony with in social integration one with another. Accordingly, since settling down in the island more than1200 years ago, the Muslims established very cordial ties with the Buddhist people in Sri Lanka. The relationship between them may be cited as a unique example of ethnic harmony in multi-religious societies. Evidently, this is a longstanding relationship formed over a very long period of time and developed and preserved with trust and good understanding between these two communities. As such, it has stood the test of time and has been able to withstand the numerous attempts made by various colonial powers and chauvinistic racist elements to destroy it. Given the above background, therefore, the purpose of this paper is to identify historical relationship between the Buddhists and the Muslims in Sri Lanka
This article discusses the progressive Islamic movement developed by Muhammadiyah, a modernist Islamic organization established by Ahmad Dahlan on November 18, 1918. History has shown that Muhammadiyah, as a modernist Islamic organization, has instigated various social transformations that continue to affect Indonesian society by creating schools, hospitals, and orphanages that were inspired by modern, Westernized systems and modernist interpretations of the Qur'an. Even today, Muhammadiyah remains active in national activities and discourse, continuously responding to the ever-changing times. This article departs from the argument that the progressive movement developed by Muhammadiyah was translated from Ahmad Dahlan's desire to advance the ummah and to create a just and prosperous world, one that has been blessed by God. As such, it argues that Muhammadiyah's response to the problems of its ummah has been informed by the history of the movement and its founders.
Management is a tool to improve quality of work and its relationship with the success of organisation therefore very fundamental. It begins with the power system, process of planning, prosedure and rules which can provide excellent contribution to the organization. This article will discuss some basic principle of management to improve the quality of work performance according to Islamic perspective. These fundamental principles include values such as insaniyyah (humanity), tawhīd (unity), shūra (consultation) and istiqamah (steadfastness) in every action. It emphasises on attaining spiritual success through deligence in work of excellence. It means to get the best quality of work through both spiritual and material satisfaction whether by the employer and also the employee. This paper also discusses other elements that contribute to improve quality of work in Islamic perspective in order to achieve organisational success such as al-niyyah (having purpose), amanah (integrity), time management, c adl (justice/balance) and ta c āwun (cooperation). Highly committed employee who combined all these elements will make great contribution to the organisation. Therefore, it is significant to stress the relevant relationship between all elements with quality of work within the Islamic perspective. Some elements which differentiates Islamic management with conventional management in general were also discussed in comparative manner to highlight the benefits of Islamic management to the overall well being of the employer and the employee as well as the organisation as a whole.
Philosophy and practical life are two different things. Philosophy is a theoretical in nature, while practical life covering all types of human actions and is bound by space, time and matter. Philosophy emphasizes analytical thinking, idealistic, holistic, comprehensive and practical. When all of these aspects compared, it looks different and has no relation. However, the reality of life illustrates that practical life mostly depends on philosophical commentaries and conclusion on any area of life. This article will prove the close relationship between these two things and its benefits to mankind.
Green space is an essential element in a city that serves outdoor recreational place for the community. It helps generating the economic and social values and promoting a healthy lifestyle for local community. The aim of the study is to audit the green spaces in Pasir Gudang Municipality and promote the strategies to improve the use of green space in the study area towards better quality of life of the citizens. The study classifies the existing green spaces in Pasir Gudang in terms of size, function, use, quality, area, accessibility and facilities provided in the green space areas. Two key points have been identified as a basic reference before any development of green spaces take place in Pasir Gudang. The study reveals that present green space areas in Pasir Gudang Municipality are able to serve most communities in the municipality. However, still about 35% of the municipality area is not presently served by the existing green spaces. Thus quantity, quality and accessibility of the green space areas need improvement. This study also shows the potential network of the access that will be able to improve the approachability of all existing green space areas by the citizens to contribute to their quality of life.
