Abstract – Petri net is on of models commonly used for automation and manufacture. This paper reports the use of petri net in modeling automated distillation process of ethanol, using PLC as main controller. The model encompassed hardware and software parts of the prototype built. The control system was aimed to keep the system at ethanol’s boiling point of 80ºC, while maintaining the hardware’s safety especially the heater. Free style petri net was used, then implemented on PLC. The resulting prototype has performed consistent performance of automatic distillation, producing 80% ethanol out of 40% ethanol.

Keyword – Petri net, PLC, distillation, temperature control, heater

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
