Although sex is a prominent topic in mass media content, the industry has been criticized for not adequately covering the risks of sex, such as infection or unwanted pregnancy. Magazines present one, but an important, source of information about sexual behavior. This study comparatively examines coverage of STIs in articles about sex in two men's and two women's magazines. The results show that men's magazines had fewer articles about sex than women's magazines and a smaller percentage of sex-themed articles in men's magazines contained STI information. Several other differences between men and women's magazines, consistent with evolutionary psychology, emerged form the analysis.
