Sales managers are concerned with motivation of individual salespersons as well as motivation of the entire sales force. A well motivated salesperson is expected to be satisfied with his or her job. Consequently, he or she is expected to render satisfying services to the customers. This study was able to examine intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation separately and their effects on job satisfaction. Copies of questionnaire were distributed randomly to the sales representatives of the sampled four service firms for the study. Two hypotheses were developed and were subjected to regression analysis. It was discovered that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations are crucial to enriching the job satisfaction of the sales representatives. The study makes useful recommendations which entrepreneurs and sales managers will find very useful if implemented.
Based on the high-ceilinged unemployment rate in Nigeria, self employment and small enterprise initiatives are presently one of the country's national agenda, in the expectation that they will provide unconventional means of profitable engagement.
The small-scale industry in Nigeria is considered to be an important element to the growth of the economy in contributing to the gross domestic products of the economy, and it has been of contention that strategic leadership has influenced and sustained the performance of small and medium enterprises. As such, the main objective of the study is to examine how the exercising of strategic leadership has influenced and sustained the performance of small and medium enterprises in Nigeria in terms of social impact. About 300 questionnaires were administered to small sized companies. The study found that there is a significant influence of strategic planning on sustaining small and medium enterprises profit performance and the results indicated that the managers that sustain profitability performance are those that are strategic in planning. The study discovers that the return on investment of small and medium enterprise depends on the appropriateness of its leadership practices. The study recommends that small-sized companies should be effective in their strategy implementation in order to achieve the corporate objectives of indigenous small and medium enterprises.
PurposeThis research investigated the influence of the dimensions of the SECI theory, LMX theory and a newly developed teacher–student knowledge exchanges (TSKE) on preparedness of students for the workplace.Design/methodology/approachBased on a sample size of 214 business education students drawn from six programmes, structural equation modelling using AMOS was adopted to show relationships between dimensions of SECI, LMX and TSKE.FindingsThe statistical analysis revealed that dimensions of the SECI theory, especially socialization and externalization; dimensions of the LMX theory, especially professional respect; and dimensions of the newly developed TSKE perspective, especially the SECI-dominated knowledge exchange were significant influencers of students' workplace preparedness.Originality/valueExisting literature that focussed on the knowledge management theme in education industry scarcely examined the processes that are critical to knowledge creation and exchange in HEIs. Therefore, the present study adopts a synthesis of SECI and LMX theories to explain how knowledge creation can occur in HEIs and prepare students for the workplace.
