Advances in fibre optic sensors and, in particular, the technique of electropolymeñsation have led to a development which allows for porphynns, the sensing molecules, to be attached directly onto the tip of an optical fibre. The sensing element as a whole is very robust, since during the process of elecopolymerisation the molecule forms a matrix on the surface of the fibre-film, thus ensuring no leeching of the film constituents to the surrounding environment. Luminescence lifetime decays were obtained using a novel dedicated instrumentation system. The data was analysed using high level languages incorporating mathematical modelling capabilities. The results of this work are reported as well as a detailed discussion of the electropolymerisation process with respect to the porphyrins.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
