To achieve greater sustainability of the traffic system, the trend of traffic accidents in road traffic was analysed. Injuries from traffic accidents are among the leading factors in the suffering of people around the world. Injuries from road traffic accidents are predicted to be the third leading factor contributing to human deaths. Road traffic accidents have decreased in most countries during the last decade because of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020. The main reasons behind the reduction of traffic accidents are improvements in the construction of vehicles and roads, the training and education of drivers, and advances in medical technology and medical care. The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the pattern in the time series of traffic accidents in the city of Belgrade. Time series have been analysed using exploratory data analysis to describe and understand the data, the method of regression and the Box–Jenkins seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average model (SARIMA). The study found that the time series has a pronounced seasonal character. The model presented in the paper has a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 5.22% and can be seen as an indicator that the prognosis is acceptably accurate. The forecasting, in the context of number of a traffic accidents, may be a strategy to achieve different goals such as traffic safety campaigns, traffic safety strategies and action plans to achieve the objectives defined in traffic safety strategies.
Galectin-3 (Gal-3) has diverse roles in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. There is evidence that Gal-3 plays a role in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. While the role of Gal-3 expression in immune cells invading the pancreatic islets in the experimental model of type 1 diabetes mellitus has been already studied, the importance of the overexpression of Gal-3 in the target β cells is not defined. Therefore, we used multiple low doses of streptozotocin (MLD–STZ)–induced diabetes in C57Bl/6 mice to analyze the effect of transgenic (TG) overexpression of Gal-3 in β cells. Our results demonstrated that the overexpression of Gal-3 protected β cells from apoptosis and attenuated MLD–STZ–induced hyperglycemia, glycosuria, and ketonuria. The cellular analysis of pancreata and draining lymph nodes showed that Gal-3 overexpression significantly decreased the number of pro-inflammatory cells without affecting the presence of T-regulatory cells. As the application of exogenous interleukin 33 (IL-33) given from the beginning of MLD–STZ diabetes induction attenuates the development of disease, by increasing the presence of regulatory FoxP3+ ST2+ cells, we evaluated the potential synergistic effect of the exogenous IL-33 and TG overexpression of Gal-3 in β cells at the later stage of diabetogenesis. The addition of IL-33 potentiated the survival of β cells and attenuated diabetes even when administered later, after the onset of hyperglycemia (12–18 days), suggesting that protection from apoptosis and immunoregulation by IL-33 may attenuate type 1 diabetes.
Context.The variety of tumor-seeking radiopharmaceuticals, which are currently in clinical use, may have a potential role as imaging agents for adrenal gland tumors, due to physiological characteristics of this organ.Objective. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic potential of 99m Tc-HYNIC-TOC, 99m Tc(V)-DMSA, and 99m Tc-MIBI in the assessment of adrenal tumors, by correlating with imaging findings and histopathologic results.Design. The research is designed as a crosssectional prospective study.Patients and method. The study included 50 patients with adrenal tumors (19 hormone-secreting and 31 nonfunctioning) and 23 controls without adrenal involvement. In all patients, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) was performed, using qualitative and semiquantitative analysis. The tumor to nontumor tracer uptake was conducted by using a region-ofinterest technique. Adrenal to background (A/B) ratio was calculated in all cases.Results. 99m Tc-HYNIC-TOC scintigraphy showed a high statistical significance between A/B ratios, while other two tracers resulted in a lower sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. Futhermore, 99m Tc-HYNIC-TOC could have a high diagnostic yield to detect adrenal tumors (the receiveroperating-characteristic curve analysis, A/B ratio cut-off value of 8.40). Conclusion.A semiquantitative SPECT analysis showed that 99m Tc-HYNIC-TOC is a highly sensitive tumorseeking agent for the accurate localization of adrenal tumors.
Context. Adiponectin is an abundant adipokine, which has antiinflammatory, anti-atherosclerotic and vasoprotective actions, and potential antiresorptive effects on bone metabolism. It seems to be directly involved in the improvement and control of energy homeostasis, protecting bone health and predicting osteoporotic fracture risk. Objective. To examine the relationship between adiponectin level and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and low BMD, and to estimate the prognostic significance of adiponectin in osteoporosis. Design. Clinical-laboratory cross-sectional study including 120 middle-aged and elder women (average 69.18±7.56 years). Subjects and Methods. The anthropometric parameters were measured for all examinees. Lumbar spine and hip BMD, as well as body fat percentage, were measured using a Hologic DEXA scanner. In all subjects serum adiponectin concentration was measured by ELISA method. Results. The level of adiponectin was significantly positively correlated with BMD-total, BMD of the lumbar spine and BMD of the femoral neck (r=0.618, r=0.521, r=0.567; p<0.01). Levels of adiponectin and BMD are significantly lower in post-menopausal women with MetS and osteoporosis compared to patients with osteopenia (856.87±453.43 vs. 1287.32±405.21 pg/mL, p<0.01; BMD, p<0.05), and the highest values in healthy examinees. A cutoff value of adiponectin level for osteoporosis/osteopenia was 1076.22/1392.74 pg/mL. Conclusions. Post-menopausal women with MetS have significantly lower adiponectin level and low BMD compared to healthy examinees. Adiponectin may be an early, significant and independent predictor of developing osteoporosis in women with MetS, especially in postmenopausal period.
University students are a specific adolescent population which is preparing to take participation in different domains of a society as its integral and creative part. Chronic noncommunicable diseases have a major impact on women’s reproductive health, so their adverse epidemiological situation has significant effects on reproductive health in general. Since non-communicable chronic diseases have been a growing burden on reproductive health, the aim of this paper is asses of reproductive behavior and risk factors of non-communicable disease in female student population on Faculty of Medical Sciences University of Kragujevac. This study was conducted as a prospective cross-sectional study. The sample includes 59 female students of The Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Kragujevac. The study was conducted in three stages based on the methodology and instruments recommended by STEPwise Approach to Noncommunicable Disease Risk Factor Surveillance of the World Health Organization (STEPS). About 71.2 % of the participants reported that they had a sexual intercourse. In average, the respondents were 18 years old (SD±1.222) at the time of their first sexual intercourse. At that point, a little less than one third of them did not use any type of protection (31.7%). During the last sexual intercourse, about 65.5% did not use protection. About 22.5% of our subjects have morning glycemia with prediabetes values (glycemia cut off ≥ 5.5mmol/L). Hypercholesterolemia is present in 3.4% of the respondents (cut off ≥ 5,2mmol/l). Most respondents are eutrophic (18.8% preobese and 2.1% obese). The android obesity type is the least frequent (about 10%). This results indicates that female students has unhealthy habits in terms of their reproductive health and preventive measures. This activity indicaty a wide array of preventive action which will aim at preserving reproductive health and health in general.
