As a result of the field work carried out by the authors in 2018, an important factual material was collected to solve the problem. Two key sections were studied: on the Kazantsev Cape in the Northern part of the Chany Lake and in the area of the known location of the mammoth fauna of the Wolf Ridge in the Novosibirsk Region. The internal structure of the ridges (stratification), the lithological composition of the composing rocks were studied and paleontological remains – ostracods and mollusks – were collected. The data obtained indicate in favor of water, not aeolian origin of the ridges.
The characteristic of the upper part of the borehole 486 drilled in 1981 on the Tyumensky Peninsula, located in the center of the Chany Reaches agglomeration is given. The main feature of the section is the presence of a horizon of large frost cracks in the roof of clays of the Lower Pliocene Novostanichnaya Formation, on which the upper Quaternary cover of Griva deposits occurs. The nature of the filling of cracks by the sediments of the overlying layer indicates that they were constantly filled with ice, which had already melted under the influence of the Grosswald Flow. This horizon is important for the reconstruction of the paleoclimate and paleogeography of the region. For the first time, data of palynological study of sediments of a typical Griva in the south of Western Siberia on the example of a section on the Cape Kazantsevsky Peninsula (the northern part of Lake Chany) are presented. Sediments contain pollen of woody and herbaceous plants, single spores of mosses and ferns, as well as microphytoplankton. The presence of cells of colonial algae of the genus Pediastrum suggests the accumulation of sediments in lacustrine conditions.
The model of horizontal inversion of sedimentary cycles proposed by the author is supplemented by the provision on vertical inversion arising in large regional transgressions and regressions. The combination of these types of transformation of sedimentary cycles allows to explain the violation of the natural alternation of sand and clay strata at the level of regional horizons, adopted in the official stratigraphic schemes. It allows occurrence of sandy horizons on sandy, and clay – on clay within transition zones. The possibility of revision on this basis of the volume, stratigraphic position and correlation of some suites and horizons on the stratigraphic chart of the Jurassic of Western Siberia is shown.
