Teachers" level of burnout and creativity are considered as variables which affect the quality of both teaching and learning in almost any educational context. The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between creativity and burnout among Iranian EFL teachers with respect to gender differences. In so doing, an exploratory/descriptive study was applied with a sample size of 100 male and female classroom teachers. A survey was given to English language teachers in 12 English language institutes from all over the city of Mashhad. Weak correlations were found between creativity and the two dimensions of burnout, i.e., emotional exhaustion, depersonalization. However, a fairly significant correlation was observed between creativity and reduced personal accomplishment. Further, by running two way ANOVA it was revealed that gender did not influence the relationship between reduced personal accomplishment and the creativity index.
Abstract-The present study was firstly meant to review and study the main functions and applications of the Hot Potatoes program and further to identify its main features in terms of the development of various types of language tests and exercises. Secondly the study identified a number of deficiencies both in connection with the applications and the modality of the exercises it produces. The analysis revealed that although the program offers facility in creating different types of exercises together with teacher's feedback that can be posted online for the ease of access, it is limited in some important areas such as providing interactive activities and synchronous feedback for the learners. Moreover, it was found that the efficiency and usefulness of this program to a great extent depends on the creativity and skills of the teacher who uses the program to create tests. Similarly, the language contents that the teacher uses can have a great influence on the effectiveness of the exercises developed by Hot Potatoes. Therefore, the program by itself gives no advantage in helping learners with their language learning practice and exposure, but only acts as a learning tool.
Abstract-Burnout and creativity, as two psychological constructs, are considered as variables which may have a considerable impact on the quality of teaching and learning. The present case study aimed at investigating the possible connections between degrees of class stability and variability and levels of creativity and burnout among 6 Iranian EFL teachers. In so doing, degrees of variability and stability, as defined and characterized in the domain of Chaos/Complexity theory, were studied qualitatively in EFL classes in relation to creativity and burnout levels of the teachers. The results suggested a direct relationship between variability and creativity levels of the participants together with a reverse relationship between the variability level and the 'depersonalization' aspect of burnout. In other words, class dynamism and creativity have more shared patterns and seem to be analogous.Index Terms-variability and stability in complex systems, creativity, burnout
