Background : Neurofibromatosis is one of the most common dominantly inherited genetic disorders. The aim of this study was Study of the demographic and clinical profile in neurofibromatosis patient. Methods :This study is cross-sectional conducted in 2020 on the population of patients with neurofibromatosis. Patients who are members of Neurofibromatosis Association answered the online demographic and clinical information questionnaire. Results: 446 patients with neurofibromatosis participated in this study with a mean age of 33.39 ± 12.87 years. 297 patients (66.6%) were women and 378 (84.8%) patients had type 1 neurofibromatosis. The disease visibility was reported to be moderate in 254 patients (54.9%) and the severity of the disease was mild in 238 (53.4%) patients. The type of neurofibromatosis was not significantly related to gender, age groups, parental education, and ethnicity. The relationship between severity and age (p = <0.001) and gender (p = 0.042) was significant and the relationship between visibility and age (p = <0.001) was significant but despite the fact that the disease was more visible in men than women, it was not significantly related to gender. Conclusions: The study results showed that the most common complication in the study population was Café au lait spot. In addition, visibility and severity of the disease were mild and moderate, respectively.
Background:Testosterone causes Alopecia that is related to functional testosterone and end organ sensitivity to testosterone. Studies conducted on the relationship of schizophrenia and testosterone have reported different findings. This study was designed to measure the extent of Alopecia in schizophrenic patients which is one of the most important signs of sensitivity to Androgens.Materials and Methods:In a cross-sectional study, 98 schizophrenic patients and 95 person of normal population encountered to study in two groups considering inclusion criteria and completing a consent form, in the psychiatric ward of Noor Hospital in Isfahan, Iran. Meanwhile, the record of necessary demographic information a blood sample was taken from every selected person to measure the blood level of testosterone. The severity of Alopecia was measured using Hamilton and Norwood criterion in a blindness condition. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19 software and statistical tests of χ2 and logistic Regression. Results:The mean blood level of testosterone in both studied and control groups were 458.80 ± 103 and 476.34 ± 108, respectively, having no significant difference (P > 0.05). There was no significant relationship in both groups between Alopecia severity and the blood level of testosterone. And in comparison of two groups, providing Androgenic Alopecia with a degree higher than three in Hamilton Scale, schizophrenia risk decreases 8.627 times. Conclusion:Sensitivity to Androgens and Alopecia probably plays a protective role against schizophrenia, and if Alopecia rate exceeds the rate of grade 2 Hamilton, the risk of schizophrenia decreases 8.62 times.
Background: Anakinra, a FDA approved biological drug for Rheumatoid Arthritis, must be injected daily due to its short Half-life, leads to the lower patient compliance. So, the aim of this study was to produce IL-1Ra in fusing to albumin binding domain to extend its half-life and evaluate its biological effects. Methods and Results: The expression of IL-1Ra-ABD was performed in E. coli in fusing to intein1 of pTWIN1 in soluble and purified. The affinity of IL-1Ra-ABD to HSA was determined on Native-PAGE and its release percent toward time was determined. Finally, MTT assay was used to determine the antagonizing properties of recombinant IL-1Ra-ABD against IL-1β, on A375 cells. the expression induction of intein1-IL-1Ra-ABD using 0.1mM of IPTG at 15°C, and its cleavage represented a band approximately in 50 and 23 kDa respectively. Native-PAGE results showed that about 78% of IL-1Ra-ABD attached to the HSA after 2 hours of incubation, and MTT assay results showed no significant differences between the effects of our recombinant protein and native IL-1Ra.Conclusion: the production of soluble IL-1Ra-ABD with similar antagonizing effects to IL-1Ra was successfully performed. IL-1Ra-ABD showed suitable interaction with HSA and release over the time. However, pharmacokinetics and furthur biological evaluations are required.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
