The current paper shows the results using the Arduino electronic prototyping platform on the subjects of Introduction to Electrical Engineering and Algorithms and Programming Logic, that composes the first semester of Electrical Engineering undergraduate course from IFPB (Instituto Federal de Educacao, Ciencia e Tecnologia da Paraiba). These students, in many engineering courses just would have contact with something practical at fourth or fifth semesters, but on Electrical Engineering undergraduate course from IFPB, since first semester already has subjects that contains theoretical and practical contents, that keep them motivated in an attempt to reduce the school dropout. In the work developed with these two subjects, a mini course about the Arduino Platform with sixteen hours is offered to the students that develop a teamwork with free-theme, but the work should have practical application, in order to solve society problems. The projects developed, show this practice adopted offers the opportunity to have a contact with a low-cost learning tool, where the students are an active element of the learning process.
