This paper presents a microstrip-fed integrated bluetooth and ultra-wide band (UWB) antenna that is small, low-profile, and planar. Antenna occupies an area of 42× 46 (mm) on a printed circuit board (PCB). The design of the antenna is optimized to provide high performance for the operation at 3100-10600 MHz (UWB) and 2400-2484 MHz (Bluetooth) bands. The antenna was fabricated and its return loss and radiation patterns were measured and compared to the simulations results showing a good agreement between theoretical and measured results.

This article presents an electronically tunable varactor‐loaded microstrip bandpass filter based on the planar split ring resonators (SRRs). The varactor is a reverse‐biased semiconductor diode, and is connected between the concentric rings of the SRR. An individual varactor loaded SRR based bandpass tunable filter module is analyzed. Then a third order tunable filter with 2% fractional bandwidth and a tuning range from 2.11 to 2.34 GHz is assembled from basic filter modules. A prototype filter is designed, fabricated and tested. The maximum tuning range of the prototype filter is 10.2% and the size of the filter is reduced by a factor of 3.5 compared to a coupled line filter. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Meshed microstrip antennas are optically see‐through when printed on transparent substrates and can potentially be directly integrated on solar cells to save surface real estate of small satellites.Integrating active components such as amplifiers with see‐through antennas further extends multifunctionality of solar panels. Two active integrated meshed patch antennas were studied at 2.48 GHz. The antennas serve as loads for class‐B power amplifiers and as radiators. As a reference, the first design was a regular meshed antenna integrated with an amplifier. In the second design, the antenna was modified to suppress its second harmonics to improve the power added efficiency (PAE) of the integrated amplifier. It was shown that the PAE of the second design is increased by the harmonics suppression. The maximum PAE was measured to be 47.2% for the harmonics suppressing meshed antenna, and the output power is 15.8 dBm at the peak PAE. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
