Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are important for teachers because it needs to be effectively integrated ICT into the formal classroom teaching and learning conditions, so integration of ICT in teacher education is of great significance. The aim of the study was to compare the use and impact of the use of ICT on the study process of full-time (FT) and part-time (PT) pedagogical specialities students. The electronic survey of the 1st course pedagogical specialities FT and PT students from the University of Latvia was carried out. Altogether 118 students were questioned. The results of the research showed that the majority of surveyed pedagogical specialities students use ICT for study purposes 1-2 or 2-4 h during day. Different FT students use ICT more differently in comparison with PT students. FT students more often than PT students use ICT for different activities connected with study process but PT students in comparison with FT students more often use ICT for searching information to do home works. The majority of surveyed students evaluate their knowledge and skills in the using of ICT as good. The majority of students agree or rather agree that the use of ICT gives positive impact on different stages of the study process. The use of ICT helps better involvement in the study process, makes students more independent during study process, gives them possibilities to get more new information and better communicate during study process, the use of ICT makes studies more exciting and gives positive impact on the acquisition of the study content. More FT students (67 %) in comparison with PT students (31 %) agree that the use of ICT gives ability for better understanding of different processes and more FT students (45 %) in comparison with PT students (8 %) fully evaluate positive impact of the use of ICT on the acquisition of the study content. Students agree or rather agree to the negative impact of the use of ICT on the lifestyle. The results of the research suggest that the majority of pedagogical specialities students understand the necessity of acquiring ICT during study process.
Students is a group of population, who experience psychological overload and emotional strain. These factors could have a negative impact on student's health, but good health level and positive mood are important factors for high learning outcomes. The survey of Riga 2nd Gymnasium 9th grade basic school students and University of Latvia 1st course pedagogical speciality students was carried out. The self-estimation of health level, physical activities and feeling at school and at home of the both group students was compared. The results of the survey showed that the majority of students have good health level or they have minor health problems. Physical activity of basic school students is higher than the physical activity of university students. A part of students regularly experience strain. More basic school students in comparison with university students are regularly in the state of stress. Overall university students feel better at university than basic school students at school. The majority of both group students feel good at home. Students consider that important factors for maintaining of the health are: correct sleep regimen, proper nutrition regime, enough physical activities, avoiding from stress and overload.
Modern education is closely connected with implementation and using of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the teaching process. The questionnaire of teachers and directors of Latvia schools was carried out in order to evaluate the situation of ICT in schools and the attitude of school pedagogues toward this process. The results of the questionnaire showed that supply of schools with modern ICT in Latvia is not sufficient. The respondents expressed their views: what are the main obstacles of effective implementation of ICT in the study process and what are the priority challenges in the implementation of ICT in schools. Key words: information and communication technologies, schools, implementation, teachers, directors.
Modern education is closely connected with implementation and use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the teaching process. ICT is recommended to be used in schools in Europe to develop competences of students to become high-quality professionals and active citizens in the society. A questionnaire survey of teachers and directors of Latvian schools was carried out in order to evaluate the use of ICT in Latvian schools and attitude of teaching staff towards this process. The results of the questionnaire survey showed that Latvian schools are not supplied with ICT to a satisfactory level. It is necessary to raise the competence of many teachers in the field of ICT. The attitude of teachers to the use of ICT in the study process is more positive in comparison with school directors. Important factors for improvement of ICT use in schools are ICT training for teachers, computer accessibility for teaching staff, sufficient supply of qualitative ICT teaching materials and computers in schools and encouragement of teachers to use ICT.
