Electric vehicle (EV) charging may impose a substantial power demand on existing low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) networks, which are usually not prepared for high power demands in short time intervals. The influx of E-mobility may require an increase in grid reinforcements, but these can be reduced and optimized by a combination of new technologies, tools, and strategies, such as the deployment of solar PV generation integrated with aggregated energy storage systems. One of the challenges in the implementation of charging infrastructures in public stations is coupling the projected sizes of energy demand and power requirements in each location for each charger. This paper describes a method to estimate projected values for energy consumption and power demand in EV fast charging stations (CS). The proposed ideas were applied in a concept facility located in Campinas, Brazil, in a structure equipped with two 50 kW DC Fast Chargers, local 12.5 kW/13.2 kWp PV generation (to reduce energy impacts to the grid), and a 100 kW/200 kWh storage system, using electrochemical batteries (to minimize peak power requirements).
The search for charging electric vehicles using renewable energy sources and ensuring the stability of the electrical system has been growing. This has led to the development of charging stations that integrate photovoltaic systems, energy storage systems in batteries, and charging stations. The storage system allows for applications that increase the reliability of the electrical network. The objective of this work is to study, based on real operational scenarios, the impacts, and criteria of energy quality of a charging solution containing a photovoltaic system, a storage system, and a charging station. In the solution, the batteries are lead-carbon type and photovoltaics have priority in energy supply, using excess generation to charge the batteries. In this aspect, the work presents relevant contributions to the study of energy quality. An improvement in energy quality is pointed out with the use of batteries, proving that even in the most diverse operating situations, such as partial shading of the photovoltaic modules, with 20% shading relative to the nominal power, charging is not impacted and reductions in distortions are achieved, with a 50% reduction in voltage imbalance, when the storage system is a voltage reference and reference to the microgrid.
Glaucoma is one of the important eye diseases today, one of the most studied eye diseases in the world. However, despite many studies, to date there is no consensus among veterinarians about the best treatment for this medical condition. With advances in technology, such as the emergence of ophthalmic laser, new techniques for the surgical treatment of glaucoma were developed, which are increasingly more effective, less invasive, and causing less postoperative complications. An example is the relatively new cyclophotocoagulation laser, which has proven to be one of the most effective techniques for IOP control. However, there have been few studies on this technique. An experiment using eight glaucomatous dogstotal of eleven eyeswas carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of laser cyclophotocoagulation as a treatment for glaucoma. This experiment shows a decreased in IOP in 100% of the operated dogs, and the technique has been proven effective, maintaining normal IOP levels in 55% of the cases.
Palavras chave: cães, cirurgia, produção lacrimal, prolapso da glândula de terceira pálpebra New surgical approach for the treatment of gland prolapse of the third eyelid in dogs: A retrospective studyAbstract. At this clinical study twelve dogs, 13 eyes, presenting the prolapse of the third eyelid gland, received surgical treatment in a new technical approach. After a complete eye exam and pre-surgery laboratory exams, the surgical treatment of the prolapse of the third eyelid gland was performed through an incision, using a surgical laser on the caudal side of the base of the third eyelid; a tunnel was created by divulsion the mucosa using a Halsted-Mosquito forceps. The prolapsed gland was replaced by performing two Wolf's sutures with absorbable thread trespassing the third eyelid and its inner mucosa. This procedure was enabled to retain the prolapsed gland inside the mucosa of the caudal face of the third eyelid. The two sutures were sufficient to prevent the gland from reprofiling itself. All patients were evaluated after seven, fourteen and twenty-one days post-surgery, none of them presented recurrence of prolapse or even inflammation of the gland, conjunctiva or alteration in their lacrimal production.
