Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate clinical and demographical analysis of patients with red eye attending an emergency service of a general hospital. Methods: In this retrospective study, 3199 patients who were admitted to the emergency service with a complaint of red eye between April 2014 and April 2015 in the emergency room of Abant Izzet Baysal University Training and Research Hospital were evaluated. Results: Of all the patients admitted to emergency department, 1.29% were diagnosed with red eye and 21.79% of them were consulted to the ophthalmology department. The most common cause of ophthalmology consultation was acute conjunctivitis and corneal, conjunctival foreign body, corneal abrasion, acute glaucoma crisis, subconjunctival hemorrhage, hyphema, uveitis, keratitis, hordeolum, blepharitis and penetrating eye injury with descending order. Conclusion: It's suggested that, the patients attending to emergency departments with red eye should be examined carefully and the collaboration between ophthalmologists and emergency physicians should be performed effectively. With the help of the experienced emergency staff a remarkable decrease of the number of ophthalmology consultation has been observed. Keywords:Red eye, emergency, consultation. ÖZETAmaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, acil servise kırmızı göz nedeniyle başvuran hastaların klinik ve demografik özelliklerinin incelenmesidir. Ayrıca acil serviste kırmızı göze yaklaşımı değerlendirmek, istenen göz konsültasyonları hakkında bilgi sahibi olmaktır. Yöntemler: Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Acil Servisine Nisan 2014 ile Nisan 2015 tarihleri arasında kırmızı göz ile başvuran 3199 hasta geriye dönük olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Acil servise başvuran hastaların % 1,29 'unun kırmızı göz tanısı aldığı, bu hastaların da % 21,79 una göz konsültasyonu istendiği saptanmıştır. Akut konjonktivit en sık konsültasyon sebebi olup, bunu sırasıyla korneal, konjonktival yabancı cisim, korneal abrazyon, akut glokom krizi, subkonjonktival hemoraji, hifema, üveit, keratit, arpacık, blefarit ve delici göz yaralanması izlemiştir. Sonuç: Acil servislerde eğitimli sağlık personelinin görev alması, göz hastalıkları ve acil servis departmanları arasında etkili işbirliğinin olması ile göz hastalıkları uzmanına konsülte edilen kırmızı göz vaka sayısında azalma olacağına inanmaktayız.
