The fluid dynamic behaviour and the liquid‐solid mass transfer to horizontal cylinders, under bubble induced convection, was investigated. The gas void fraction was measured and overall mass transfer coefficients were determined for single cylinders as well as for banks of tubes with various characteristics.
The local mass transfer rate to tubes immersed in gas‐liquid two‐phase systems was studied using the electrochemical method. It was found that the mass transfer distribution around the tube perimeter is not uniform and depends on the geometry of the system, the properties of the liquid phase and the superficial gas velocity.
Taking into account the analogy between heat and mass transfer, these results may be useful in both fields.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
