OBJECTIVE: to describe the validation process of an educational booklet for healthy eating in pregnancy using local and regional food. METHODS: methodological study, developed in three steps: construction of the educational booklet, validation of the educational material by judges, and by pregnant women. The validation process was conducted by 22 judges and 20 pregnant women, by convenience selection. We considered a p-value<0.85 to validate the booklet compliance and relevance, according to the six items of the instrument. As for content validation, the item-level Content Validity Index (I-CVI) was considered when a minimum score of at least 0.80 was obtained. RESULTS: five items were considered relevant by the judges. The mean I-CVI was 0.91. The pregnant women evaluated positively the booklet. The suggestions were accepted and included in the final version of the material. CONCLUSION: the booklet was validated in terms of content and relevance, and should be used by nurses for advice on healthy eating during pregnancy.
This is a methodological development study which aims to validate an educational handbook for self-care among women with mastectomies, using the theoretical stage of the Pasquali model. The data collection took place from May to June of 2006 in two methodological periods: 1st) content analysis by 14 judges; and 2nd) semantic analysis by 9 women with mastectomies. The questionnaires used were organized according to Likert with items distributed in block and analyzed through descriptive statistics. The validation proposal was satisfactory for the analysis of the evaluators, for the majority of the answers received adequate concepts, not presenting disagreement in either evaluation. As to the parameter of 80% agreement among the concepts, 14 items reached the proposed goal, 4 had limiting indexes and 4 were below the parameter. We consider that the validated handbook can contribute to health promotion, prevention of complications, development of abilities of their users, and favor nursing autonomy and motivation in order to create new technologies extracted from praxis. Background: This study’s aims are to assess the current evidence presented in the literature regarding the potential risks of COVID-19 infection among pregnant women and consequent fetal transmission. Methods: a systematic literature review assessing papers published in the most comprehensive databases in the field of health intended to answer the question, “What are the effects of COVID-19 infection during pregnancy, and what is the neonatal prognosis?” Results: 49 papers published in 2020 were eligible, presenting low levels of evidence. A total of 755 pregnant women and 598 infants were assessed; more than half of pregnant women had C-sections (379/65%). Only 493 (82%) infants were tested for SARS-CoV-2, nine (2%) of whom tested positive. There is, however, no evidence of vertical transmission based on what has been assessed so far, considering there are knowledge gaps concerning the care provided during and after delivery, as well as a lack of suitable biological samples for testing SARS-CoV-2. Conclusions: We cannot rule out potential worsening of the clinical conditions of pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2, whether the infection is associated with comorbidities or not, due to the occurrence of respiratory disorders, cardiac rhythm disturbances, and acid-base imbalance, among others. We recommend relentless monitoring of all pregnant women in addition to testing them before delivery or the first contact with newborns.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the health-related quality of life of women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: A cross-sectional study carried out in a specialized institution, comprising 145 women. Two standardized questionnaires for health-related quality translated and validated for the Portuguese language were used. The scores manual of the EORTC was used to calculate the domain scores of the questionnaires. Results: According to the first questionnaire, the emotional function was the most affected. The treatment causes financial difficulties for most patients (mean = 41.83). The symptoms with the highest scores were Insomnia (37.93), Fatigue (36.01) and Loss of Appetite (33.56). According to the Quality of Life Questionnaire − Breast Cancer 23, the mean score for Side effects was 50.07, meaning that many women experience side effects of chemotherapy, and impaired sexual satisfaction. Conclusion: Women with breast cancer showed changes in the following domains: financial, emotional, sexual satisfaction and future prospects. The most frequently mentioned symptoms were fatigue, insomnia and loss of appetite.
