Objective: To test the hypothesis that disease severity in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) is correlated with an increased risk of sleep apnea. Methods: A total of 34 CF patients underwent clinical and functional evaluation, as well as portable polysomnography, spirometry, and determination of IL-1β levels. Results: Mean apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), SpO2 on room air, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale score were 4.8 ± 2.6, 95.9 ± 1.9%, and 7.6 ± 3.8 points, respectively. Of the 34 patients, 19 were well-nourished, 6 were at nutritional risk, and 9 were malnourished. In the multivariate model to predict the AHI, the following variables remained significant: nutritional status (β = −0.386; p = 0.014); SpO2 (β = −0.453; p = 0.005), and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale score (β = 0.429; p = 0.006). The model explained 51% of the variation in the AHI. Conclusions: The major determinants of sleep apnea were nutritional status, SpO2, and daytime sleepiness. This knowledge not only provides an opportunity to define the clinical risk of having sleep apnea but also creates an avenue for the treatment and prevention of the disease.
RESUMOEsta pesquisa buscou avaliar a qualidade de vida no trabalho (QVT) de bancários. Trata-se de um estudo prospectivo, descritivo, exploratório e transversal, com abordagem quantitativa. Foi utilizada uma amostra de conveniência de bancários que atuam em agências localizadas no sítio de estudo (Baixada de Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro/ RJ). Para obtenção dos dados aplicou-se os instrumentos: (a) Questionário do histórico sociodemográfico; (b) Questionário sobre a QVT; e (c) Questionário WHOQOL-Bref. A análise das dimensões por cargos tem os escriturários-caixas com a menor percepção positiva em relação à realização das tarefas completas. Já no esgotamento com o trabalho, em média todos os cargos apresentaram insatisfação. Os dados relativos à avaliação da qualidade de vida dos bancários, denotou um nível baixo, preocupante e significativo no domínio psicológico, pois além da autoestima, contempla outras variáveis, tais como memória, concentração, imagem corporal, aparência e sentimentos negativos. Neste âmbito, torna-se de extrema importância a presença contínua e constante da QVT e a verificação de parâmetros no próprio local de trabalho de cada colaborador para que os seus níveis de desempenho e produtividade sejam positivos. O impacto de fatores psicossociais do trabalho sobre a saúde e a capacidade de trabalho dos agentes de trânsito municipais El impacto de los factores psicosociales del trabajo para la salud y la capacidad de trabajo de agentes de tráfico municipales ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the impact of work-related psychosocial factors on the health and work ability of municipal transit agents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 118 subjects at the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, during 2014. They answered two questionnaires: Work Ability Index-WAI and Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire-COPSOQ. These questionnaires collected information regarding how well a worker is able to perform his or her work; and on the psychosocial factors related to their work, health status, and welfare. The statistical analyses were carried out using the calculation of central tendency and dispersion measures. Results: The analysis of objectivity, acceptance, practicability, sensitivity and content validity of the questionnaires as a whole did not show any problematic result, with some limitations regarding their length. A significant association between WAI and COPSOQ was observed. The prevalence of good capacity for work was among the subjects aged between 31 and 50 years (p=0.012). However, concerning the job satisfaction, 28 (23.73%) denoted being satisfied, 74 (62.71%) partly satisfied, and 16 (13.56%) were dissatisfied. The ability index was 36.8 points, and the prevalence of good capacity for work was 76.27%. Conclusion: The results revealed that better physical and mental health are associated with greater work ability, representing that, the better the worker's health, the greater his work ability. The psychosocial work environment and, especially, the decision-making autonomy were thus important determinants of self-rated quality of life in this group of transit agents.
