This KAP (knowledge, attitude and practice) study, carried out from February to June 2008, aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding the Pap smear test among users of a primary health unit (PHU) and to verify any association with sociodemographic variables. The sample was comprised of 250 women. The knowledge, attitude and practice related to the examination were adequate in 40.4%, 28% and 67.6% of respondents, respectively. The results demonstrate higher proportions of adequate knowledge and attitude with schooling (>9 years) and age (>35 years). It is essential to seek specific answers regarding this issue in order to direct integrated actions of health education, thus ensuring greater access, adhesion and return of the women for the examination results.
Objectives: Check the reliability and validity of Breastfeeding SelfEfficacy Scale -Short Form (BSES-SF) in Brazilian adolecent puerperal mothers who have recently given birth; and evaluate the association of scores of the BSES-SF with the socioeconomic and obstetric variables of the studied population. Methods: Methodological and quantitative study developed in a public maternity in Fortaleza involving 79 adolescent puerperal mothers. The BSES-SF and a form with socioeconomic and obstetric variables were used. Data were analyzed using the SPSS program, considering the Cronbach's Alpha (α) as a measure of reliability, and Pearson's correlation, with significance of 5%. Results:The BSES-SF is a reliable and valid measure (α = 0.807). The teenagers proved to be confident about the practice of breastfeeding (56.15 points). Only education level showed significant association with maternal self-efficacy of adolescents in breastfeeding (p = 0.032). Conclusion:The BSES-SF is a safe and effective tool in the detection of self-efficacy of adolescent mothers in breastfeeding, favoring their assistance in the process of breastfeeding and, hence, the reduction of early weaning.
To analyze the coverage and the colpocytology exams that were not collected from a Health Center. This is a retrospective documentary study, in which the data were evaluated for coverage of 2007 and all 225 tests that were performed but were not collected by the patients unit until January 2008. Statistical analysis was performed using the frequency of the studied variables. The average monthly number of tests was 102.6 examinations. The coverage of the examination in 2007 was 11.22% among women with 25 to 59 years of age. Of the 938 tests conducted between February and November 2007, 225 (23.98%) women did not receive the result. Most women (67.5%) who performed the examination and had not returned were 30 years old or younger. The women's attitude of not returning to collect their exam results increases the difficulty of follow up, and providing comprehensive and continuity of care, contributing with an intervention in advanced stages of the disease.
Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct an integrative literature review on the impact of breast cancer (CA) on female sexuality. Methods:The search was performed online in November 2014 using the following databases: Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Scopus, PubMed, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS) and the Cochrane Library. The search results consisted of 13 articles. Synthesis:Most studies have shown that women have less lubrication and a decrease in desire, which directly affect their quality of life. Moreover, 70% of the articles described limitations of the studies, the most cited of which were as follows: small sample size because of the feeling that participants considered the theme to be embarrassing, the altered emotional state decreased willingness to participate in the study, and the non-participation of husbands in the study reduced the impact on marital intimacy. Conclusion:It can be concluded that breast cancer has a negative impact on the sexual function of women who are affected by this disease.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
