Background: Teeth discoloration is considered disturbing performance, therefore bleaching become an option for teeth whitening. Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is commonly used, it is beneficial for teeth whitening but in other hand it has adverse effectin lowering micro hardness of the tooth. Hydrogen Peroxide can be found in pears. The objectives of this research were to determine the influences of application duration and immersion time of tooth when immersed in pear juice toward its discoloration and micro hardness.Method: An experimental study with pre-post test controlled group design were conducted using 28 premolars teeth which divided into four groups. Group A and Bwere immersed in pear juice with concentration of 100% for 30 and 60 minutes/day. Group C and D were immersed in H2O2 3% for 30 and 60 minutes/day each for 14 days. Tooth color and micro hardness of each tooth sample were recorded before and on 7thand 14thdays after immersion. The data was analyzed by friedman test, repeated anova, one-way anova and post hoc.Result: The average of tooth color index based on the duration of application in all four groups showed significant changes, while the average change in micro hardness index based on the duration of applications were shown significant difference only in group C and D. The difference of time immersion in pear juice 100% for 30 and 60 minutes had no effect on tooth discoloration and micro hardness. Conclusion: It can be concluded that pear juice can be used as an alternative material for bleaching process without deteriorating it’s micro hardness.
Background: The use of commercial desensitization toothpaste is one of the way to treat dentine hypersensitivity. Desensitization tooth paste contains an active ingredient which is able to occlude the dentinal tubules to minimize the movement of fluid in the dentinal tubules which lead to dentin hypersensitivity. Desensitization toothpaste containing various kind of active ingredients for occluding the dentinal tubules. The purpose of this research was to determine the differences of desensitization tootpaste ability (Pepsodent Sensitive Expert® and Sensodyne Repair and Protect®)inoccluding dentinal tubules with different active ingredient (hydroxyapatite and Novamin).Method: The research is experimental laboratories with post test group design. The sample used was 8 dentin disc with 8 mm length and 3 mm width, the sample was divided into two groups thattreated with Pepsodent Sensitive Expert® desensitization toothpaste and the group treated with Sensodyne Repair and Protect® desensitization toothpaste. A non-parametric data analysis was carried out by MannWhitney(<0.05). Result:The result showed that there were no significant differences in the percentage of dentinal tubulesin both treatment groups. Conclusion:The conclusion of this research is both of Pepsodent Sensitive Expert® and Sensodyne Repair and Protect® desensitization tootpaste have the same ability in occluding the dentinal tubules.
Background: Odontogram is one part of the dental record. The odontogram form isfilled with diagnoses and treatment done by the dentist. Odontogram can be used for the further treatment plan and help the forensic department to do the identification. The purpose of this study was to identify the completeness of odontogram filling out by the dentist in Semarang.Method: The research was descriptive using a cross-sectional study design. The subject of the research was graduated dentist in year 2015 until 2017. Subjects were chosen through information from PDGI.Result: The result of this study showed that none of the subjects filled odontogramcompletely, 5 subjects filled less complete and 39 others were categorized incomplete according to medical record guidance book published in 2015.Conclusion: Based on the study, concluded that the need to pay attention aboutthe importance of filling odontogram by the dentist was still low.
Background: Dentin hypersensitivity is a short sharp sense of pain in the teeth when exposed to excitatory stimulus. A total of 74% of world population experiencing dentin hypersensitivity. Home treatment topical desensitization is rarely found in Indonesia. The use of dentrifice is less practical because it must be done with regular brushing. Indonesia has abundant natural resources, one of which is purple sweet potato. Purple sweet potato (Ipomea Batatas P.) has highest potasium ions compared to other foodstuffs. Potassium ions can be a solution of dentin hypersensitivity by temporary blocking the suffix pulp nerve impulses. Purpose: The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of the 10% purple sweet potato extract gel of the dental pain threshold score. Method: An experimental study carried out by dental pain threshold score measurements using vitality tester into the teeth with gum recession. Samples included 32 respondents with a single blind and pre-post test control group design. They were divided into treatment group and negative control group. Paired T-test and Wilcoxon were used as data analysis. Result: The results showed dental pain threshold score increasing either in treatment group and negative control, although not as significant as in the treatment group. Conclusion: 10% purple sweet potato extract gel containing potassium ions is able to reduce the pain of dentin hypersensitivity.
