Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo apresentar os benefícios da espiritualidade para a ressignificação do adoecimento de pacientes em cuidados paliativos. Metodologia: Este é um estudo qualitativo de revisão integrativa (RI) por meio da leitura de artigos publicados entre os anos de 2018 a 2022, disponíveis na íntegra online e gratuitos, nos idiomas português, espanhol e inglês. Artigos que trabalharam especificamente o tema de espiritualidade e cuidados paliativos. Foram identificados 239 estudos e 186 excluídos pelo título e resumo. 48 dos estudos completos foram avaliados para a elegibilidade, 41 excluídos por serem pagos e 7 artigos incluídos para a síntese qualitativa. Resultados: Os artigos apresentaram como benefícios, a melhora na qualidade de vida e percepção do significado pessoal da própria vida. Apontaram que houve a obtenção da paz e descoberta da força interior. Os pacientes obtiveram alívio da dor, aumento da fé, da esperança e do bem estar. Conclusão: Observou-se que a espiritualidade traz aos pacientes em cuidados paliativos benefícios no decorrer de todo o processo de enfrentamento da morte, independente da fase em que se encontram dentro desse processo.
Objective: This study aims to present the benefits of spirituality for the resignification of the illness of patients in palliative care. Methodology: This is a qualitative study of integrative review (IR) by reading articles published between the years 2018 to 2022, available in full online and free, in Portuguese, Spanish, and English languages. Articles that specifically worked on the topic of spirituality and palliative care. 239 studies were identified and 186 were excluded by title and abstract. 48 of the full studies were assessed for eligibility, 41 were excluded for being paid and 7 articles were included for qualitative synthesis. Results: The articles presented benefits, improved quality of life, and perceived personal significance of one's life. They pointed out that there was the attainment of peace and the discovery of inner strength. The patients obtained relief from pain, and increased faith, hope, and well-being. Conclusion: It was observed that spirituality brings benefits to patients in palliative care during the entire process of facing death, regardless of the phase in which they are within this process.
