Future Fit was developed to provide a low cost, heart health education and fitness program that could be incorporated readily into existing after-school programs with minimal teacher training and nominal expenditures for equipment and supplies. Participants in the 12-week demonstration project were 55 third and fourth grade students enrolled in after-school programs at four sites, randomly assigned to experimental and control conditions. Results indicated significant knowledge gains and changes in knowledge, attitude, and behavior at home. These outcomes suggest health and fitness programming in the after-school setting can be an effective complement to the education provided within the school setting.
Crosswell seismic (CS) technology provides a high-resolution image of the subsurface between two nearby wells. Crosswell seismic data can reach frequencies greater than 1000 Hz, which makes the technology applicable to many reservoir-development challenges in hydrocarbon exploration and production studies that require high resolution. Applications of crosswell seismic data range from structural and stratigraphic interpretation to reservoir monitoring and enhanced oil recovery (EOR). When integrated with rock physics, crosswell seismic data can be used in reservoir-characterization studies, which potentially could be used for enhancing the resolution of rock properties derived from 3D surface-seismic data to that of crosswell resolution. In addition, velocity models obtained from crosswell seismic data can be used to better predict event locations in microseismic data processing.
Drilling horizontally within shale zones, in the presence of structural complexities, remains a major challenge. A multi-well walkaway-VSP survey was used to determine the correct structural interpretation between two pilot boreholes having ~500 ft of depth mis-tie. Interpretation of the inter-well VSP image revealed an antithetic fault. Boreholes trajectories were revised to successfully drill horizontal wells within the shale zone from both pilots.
