Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases Prevalence in the Elderly of a City of the Interior of BahiaAbstract: Objective: To verify the prevalence of chronic noncommunicable diseases in the elderly in a city in the interior of Bahia. Methods: The research is classified as descriptive and exploratory, of a quantitative nature that was performed with 173 elderly people from a municipality in the interior of Bahia. Two research instruments were applied: the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Pre-ABCDE criteria. RESULTS: The study participants were 173 elderly of 60 years and older of both sexes, 54.91% of the elderly female and 45.09% male.Regarding the Female Population, 1.15% self-reported being diagnosed with depression, 15.02% diabetes, 2.89 heart disease, 2.89 renal disease, 0.58% cancer, 71.68% hypertension. As for the male self-referenced being diagnosed with diabetes 2.90%, 1.73% heart disease, 2.31 cancer and 27.16% hypertension. Conclusion: It was verified that the profile of chronic morbidity found in the population studied is similar to the profile in the elderly in Brazil. There is a growing trend especially in Systemic Arterial Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and cancer in the male population. The study also demonstrated a larger number of self-reported diseases by women.
Objective: to investigate depressive symptomatology in active and nonactive elderly and to evaluate the influence of physical activity practice on the analyzed variables. Methodology: this is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, which was carried out with 244 elderly people from two municipalities in the interior of Bahia during the months of August and September 2016. To reach the objective was applied a Depression Scale, and a physical activity questionnaire. The statistical analysis was obtained with the aid of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences SPSS® 22.0. The present study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculdade Independente do Nordeste with Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Appraisal n.º 44876215.8.0000.5578 and approval opinion nº 1.859.545. Results: among the active elderly, the symptoms that presented the highest percentage were: difficulty working 59,6%, fatigue 57,7%, health concern 53,9% loss of sexual interest 42,3% and loss of appetite 42,3%. As for the non-active elderly, all the symptoms presented a high percentage, so the five main ones stand out: fatigue 76,2%, difficulty to work 76,2%, loss of sexual interest 72,4%, concern for health 66,1%, loss of appetite 55,5%. Conclusion: there is a higher prevalence of depressive symptoms in the non-active elderly. Descriptors: Elderly. Physical activity. Aging. Depression. RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a sintomatologia depressiva em idosos ativos e não ativos e avaliar a influência da prática de atividade física nas variáveis analisadas. Metodologia: trata-se de um estudo descritivo com abordagem quantitativa, que foi realizado com 244 idosos de dois municípios do interior da Bahia, durante os meses de agosto e setembro de 2016. Para alcançar o objetivo foi aplicada uma Escala de Depressão, Questionário socioeconômico e um questionário de atividade física. A análise estatística foi obtida com o auxílio do programa estatístico Statistical Package for the Social Sciences SPSS® 22.0. O presente estudo foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da Faculdade Independente do Nordeste com Certificado de Apresentação para Apreciação Ética n.º 44876215.8.0000.5578 e parecer de aprovação nº 1.859.545. Resultados: entre os idosos ativos, os sintomas que apresentaram maior porcentagem foram: dificuldade para trabalhar 59,6%, fadiga 57,7%, preocupação com a saúde 53,9% perda do interesse sexual 42,3% e perda de apetite 42,3%. Quanto aos idosos não ativos todos os sintomas apresentaram alta porcentagem, portanto destacam-se os cinco principais: fadiga 76,2%, dificuldade para o trabalho 76,2%, perdeu o interesse sexual 72,4%, preocupação com a saúde 66,1%, perda de apetite 55,5%.
