The leaf essential oil of wild Melissa officinalis s. l. from three localities in Greece was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The leaf oils contained β β β β β-pinene (6.4-18.2%), sabinene (6.9-17.4%), (E)-caryophyllene (7.2-15.3%) and caryophyllene oxide (12.6-24.4%) as major constituents and was characterized by the absence of citral and citronellal.
The essential oils of the flowerheads (capitula) of Chrysanthemum coronarium (Compositae), collected in two different locations in Greece, were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC-MS. Fifty-six constituents were identified, of which oxygenated monoterpenes made the highest contribution. The major constituents in sample A were trans-chrysanthenyl acetate (13.2%), trans-chrysanthenyl isovalerate (10.2%) and cis-chrysanthenyl acetate (9.9%), while those of sample B were camphor (15.7%), cis-chrysanthenyl acetate (9.1%) and trans-chrysanthenyl acetate (7.8%).
The essential oils from the verticillasters and leaves of Phlomis cretica were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The main constituents of the verticillasters essential oil were germacrene D (34.0%) and germacrene B (11.0%). The leaf oil contained germacrene D (47.9%) and α α α α α-pinene (11.2%) as major constituents.
