Employee safety and health is considered to be one of the major important human resource functions for any hotel organization. The current paper focuses on the application of occupational safety and health of laundry employees looking at the nature of the tasks performed in day to day operations. OSH is one of the significant factors responsible for employees inspiration and moreover retention in a hotel organization. Health, safety and performance of the employees are dependent on understanding and application of ergonomic practices followed during laundry operations. The paper explores laundry employee protection against various critical factors such as injuries, accidents, work postures, chemical exposure, heat, fire, noise, etc. A questionnaire was used to perpetuate perception of laundry employees in regard to protection from factors concerning safety and health issues from hotels of India. The results reveal that some of the OSH practices are been followed in hotels, while some were missing from hotels such as training, periodical audit and protection against chemical hazards. The present study suggests need for adopting OSH practices and enforcing periodical check for the same in every hotel besides of its categorization.
While online portals have improved accessibility of resources and information to potential travelers and tourists, there is less existing literature about the impact of consumer-generated content on travel decisions. The chapter has analyzed the factors of motivation for creating, accessing, and using consumer-generated content in order to have a better planned travel decision, which results in a memorable trip. The research resulted in ranking the factors of motivation for creating, accessing, and using consumer-generated content in order to identify the need of today's traveler.
This chapter aims to identify, investigate and report the importance and usage of training and development practices in food and beverage outlets operating in the region of Chandigarh, India. Based on a survey of 55 food and beverage outlets and their perceptions on training and development practices were assessed by 22 training and development practices and 3 demographic variables. To identify the importance and usage of these practices, descriptive static was incorporated. The study provides a strong indication that there are significant differences on usage and importance of training and development practices in food and beverage outlets in Chandigarh. The study is an attempt to add information to the very little empirical knowledge available referring to the training and development practices in food and beverage industry.
Travel and tourism is the largest service industry globally in terms of gross revenue, foreign exchange earnings and leading employment generators. More than two dozen nation's economic developments have been dependent on tourism and hospitality activities. Thus, most of the countries have realised that tourism and hospitality industry is the major engines of growth for developing their economies. The present study aims to analyse the contribution of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) nation in the area of travel and tourism. This study is based on WTTC reports on Travel and Tourism Economic Impact 2009 to 2015. The BRIC nations have been selected as these countries that have huge touristic potentials. These nations have breadth and global presence in travel and tourism at global level. The analysis presents the direct contribution of travel and tourism (T&T) on GDP – GDP generated by industries that deal directly with tourists, including hotels, travel agents, airlines and other passage transport services, and the activities of restaurant and leisure industries that deal directly with tourists. The results of the study reveal that, China remains the most important emerging economy in the area of travel and tourism. India continues to have fastest growing economy in the world after China. Moreover, the continuous growth and development in tourism and travel activities will further nurture economies of these countries and will have a place in global tourism in coming future.
