This thesis discusses about the improving students’ vocabulary mastery by using pictures media to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 21 Medan. This study applies pictures, one of media which can be used by the teacher to build students’ mastery of vocabularies. To master the language, vocabulary is important element in learning process. This statement is supported by Thornbury. He said that without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed. This study is a field study in two cycles; each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. In collecting data, I used qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data are observation sheet, and questionaire and field notes. The qualitative data were collected through observing the teaching learning process, holding the discussion with the teacher, and taking photographs of the teaching learning process. The quantitative data are pre-test and post-test to measure the students’ vocabulary mastery by using pictures media. The instruments for collecting data were observations checklist, field notes, and photographs. This study concludes that the students’ vocabulary mastery is improved by using pictures media. It can be seen from the means score of pre test is 65, and post test is 78. In additional, the implementation pictures media are successful to help the students memorize and understand new words easily.
This study is aimed to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through word walls strategy. This strategy is one of appropriate strategies in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The subject of this study is the eighth grade students of SMP Swasta Karya Bhakti Medan Class VIII A in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was performed in two cycles (cycle I and Cycle II) and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments of collecting data were quantitative data (vocabulary tests) and qualitative data (observation sheets, daily notes, and photograph evidences). The results of vocabulary tests showed that the mean of the students’ score increased continuously from pre-test (8 %), formative test in cycle I (44 %) to post-test in cycle II (92 %). The observation sheets, daily notes, and photograph evidences showed that the students are interested in the teaching and learning processes through word walls strategy and this study ran well. It was found that word walls strategy could improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that teachers of English should apply word walls strategy as one of the strategies in teaching vocabulary mastery.
This research was conducted in order to improve students’ speaking skill by using digital storytelling at SMA Swasta Palapa Medan. Digital storytelling is the combination of recount text, sound effects, music, images, videos and InShot Application. This is Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR). The research subjects of this CAR are the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Palapa Medan in Class MIPA in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. The research findings showed that teaching speaking skill through digital storytelling at SMA Swasta Palapa Medan could improve the students’ speaking skill. The result of each test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 55.74 with 11% of the students got score ≥70, in formative test the mean score is 64,44 with 37% of the students got score ≥70, and in post-test the mean score is 81,11 with 93% of the students got score ≥70. The writer concluded that the use of digital storytelling could improve the speaking skill of SMA Swasta Palapa Medan. On the other hand, the students’ responses towards the method of the teaching sound good because above 80% of the students are interested, motivated and enthusiastic in learning English speaking skill through the use of digital storytelling.
This research was conducted in order to improve students’ speaking skill through story telling technique to the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan. In conducting this research, the writer used Classroom Action Research (CAR). This reaearch showed that teaching speaking skill through story telling technique to the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Katolik Budi Murni 2 Medan could improve their speaking skill. The result of the this research showed that the students’ responses after being taught by using story telling technique are very good. The result of the test showed the students’ mean score in pretest is 57,37 with 20% of the students got score ≥ 70, in formative test mean score is 70,85 with 60% of t he students got score ≥ 70 and in posttest mean score is 80,05 with 88,57% of the students got score ≥ 70. The research findings showed tha the application of story telling technique could improve the students speaking skill. It is advisable that English teachers apply story telling technique as a technique in order to improve their students’ speaking skill.Â
This research is aimed to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through the application of crossword puzzle game. The subject of this research of the eighth grade students of SMP Swasta Dharma Bakti Medan. This research was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was performed in two cycles (cycle I and cycle II) and each cycle consisted of three meetings. This instrument of collecting data are quantitative (vocabulary test) data and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet and photograph evidences).the result of vocabulary test as the quantitative data show that mean of students’ score increased continuously from pre-test 36,71, post-test in cycle I 64.10, to post-test cycle II 78,48. The diary notes, observation sheet and photograph evidences as qualitative data showed that the teaching and learning process ran well. It was found that crossword puzzle game could improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that teachers of English should apply crossword puzzle game as one of the game in teaching vocabulary mastery.
