The article introduces the issue of mobile learning in higher education. It examines designing and implementation of mobile learning system in university education process through the use of mobile devices. It explores benefits of m-learning, the basic requirements for mobile learning tools and resources. The article represents the author's m-learning system of programming mobile applications for Android. The results of the study which was carried out with the students of the Applied Mathematics and Informatics Department show high impact mobile learning has on teaching and learning process in higher education.
The paper aims at identifying the connection between the target domain and the source domain (represented by the PARTS OF MECHANISM, MECHANISM REPAIR, MECHANISM ACTIVATION). The author uses continuous sampling method, as well as methods of conceptual and component analysis, in order to elicit multiple target domains and the mapping principle. The sentences under research (512 metaphorical expressions) were taken from various British and American popular science journals on Biology. The author considers the key works written in the field of conceptual metaphor (G. Lakoff, E. Maccormac), linguistic picture of the world (D. Berdnikova, S. Dracheva), written by the Russian linguists. The theoretical analysis is finished by a review of the works in the sphere of the popular science and scientific discourses and the place of metaphor in them (O. Desyukevich, S. Chistyukhina, E. Mazyar, E. Mityukova). In the course of the material description the author has drawn some conclusions about the way the English conceptualize biological processes. It is important to note that most frequently the metaphorical meaning is a broader, more general one, whereas in other cases, it alternatively makes the object or a process more specific, or it can have a completely opposite meaning. Molecule, cell, bacteria, fungi and viruses serve as target domains, which can be explained by the immense significance of the processes that lay the “foundation” of human life. A very extensive metaphorical thesaurus of the mechanism conceptual domain is indicative of this conceptual domain being well-structured. It is worthy of note that the lexemes with the denotational meaning of stopping are barely present in the research which means that the described genes, molecules and cells are doing a never-ceasing job of maintaining life on earth.
The purpose of the article is to examine the conceptual domain CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, which happens to be one of the most productive source domains in structuring biological popular science discourse in English. The analysis of this metaphorical model makes it possible to draw valid conclusions regarding some special features of how the source domain CRIME functions in the given type of discourse.
The article examines the issue of adult education as an important area of pedagogical activity in many countries in the modern world. The development of adult education is caused by rapid changes in technological processes that require highly developed professional knowledge and the ideas of constant personal development. The article also reveals the features of adult learning. Most adults start learning to solve a problem, not just for fun. This situation is also typical for adults learning a foreign language who begin to master it when they feel the need to do so in order to be more competitive, mobile, flexible and feel comfortable in another country. The author describes the content, forms and means of teaching a foreign language to adults. Adult learners can be taught a foreign language both in groups and individually. However, adults prefer individual forms of learning a foreign language. The pedagogical value of an individual form lies in the fact that it provides each student with active learning and allows adults to work at their own pace. A teacher gets the opportunity to give adult learners tasks taking into account their individual characteristics, abilities and interests. The opportunity to implement an individual approach to teaching English is provided by Internet resources. Today, teaching foreign languages is impossible without using Internet resources, since they provide us with authentic material and modern study aid for teaching and learning foreign languages. The possibilities of using the Internet resources are multifaceted. The Internet provides adult learners and teachers with all necessary information in a foreign language: country studies, the latest news, articles, necessary educational and fiction literature, reference material, lexical and grammatical exercises on various topics, tests of different levels. Thus, adult education is practice-oriented; adults prefer individual forms of learning a foreign language using Internet resources.
