Survival of patients with melanoma metastases to the brain may be prolonged by treatment with gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery or surgical excision plus whole brain radiation therapy.
Fungal sensitization in children with persistent asthma is associated with disease severity. Almost 60% of our severe persistent asthma patients had evidence of fungal sensitization and, based on our previous studies, may be potential candidates for anti-fungal therapy.
The epidemiology of S. aureus in cystic fibrosis has changed. Studies are needed to assess the clinical significance of the increased prevalence of both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and whether primary prophylaxis or new treatment/eradication protocols are effective.
