Kata kunci: Kebiasaan buruk, postur tubuh, bunyi kliking sendi temporomandibula Correlation between bad posture habits and clicking sound on temporomandibular joint at students of faculty of dentistry padjadjaran university ABSTRACT Introduction: Bad posture habits are a habit of body position that deviates from the normal position which result in changes in the musculoskeletal system components and over a long period of time can cause an imbalance in the system. Disorders of the temporomandibular joint are one of the disorders of the musculoskeletal system. One symptom of temporomandibular joint disorder is the presence of clicking sounds. The purpose of this study is to explaine a relationship between bad posture habits with clicking sounds joints temporomandibula. Methode: This research uses descriptive observational method with cross sectional approach. The study was conducted on 71 students of Dentistry Faculty of Padjadjaran University by giving questionnaires about bad posture habits and checking of clicking sounds on temporomandibula joints using stethoscope. The data obtained were analyzed using Spearman's Rank correlation test. Results: there was a significant association between FHP, sitting habits with chin rest, sitting habits and slouching in a chair, head resting on a table, carrying bags on one side, standing o...
Maxillofacial prosthesis is a non-invasive procedure to replace damaged or lost facial tissue structures. Extraoral maxillofacial prosthesis to resemble facial skin tissue is made of silicone. The addition of fillers and pigments to silicone has been done to improve its physical and mechanical properties while maintaining its biocompatibility. This study aims to evaluate the cytotoxicity of nano silica filler and intrinsic pigment additives in clean grade silicone as an alternative material for maxillofacial prosthesis. Thirty clean grade silicone samples were divided into 6 treatment groups: 1 group of silicone without any additives and 5 groups of silicone with addition of intrinsic pigment and nano silica filler with concentration of 0%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 6%. Cytotoxicity was assessed by MTT assay against 3T3L1 fibroblasts. The average absorbance value for all treatment groups was 0,941-1,105, which was lower than the control group. The post hoc test showed that only the 6% of nano silica and intrinsic pigment additive group did not differ from the control group. The addition of silica nano filler and intrinsic pigment to silicone did not cause toxicity to 3T3L1 cells. The cytotoxicity of nano silica is determined by its particle size and concentration. The use of intrinsic pigments produces compounds that are less reactive to genetic material. In conclusion, the addition of nano silica filler and intrinsic pigment to clean grade silicone as an alternative maxillofacial prosthesis is nontoxic. The addition of 6% nano silica filler and intrinsic pigment to clean grade silicone showed the best cell viability.
Introduction: Measurement of vertical dimension is very important because improper measurement of vertical dimension may create stomatognatic problem. Electromyography is a tool for recording electrical signals generated from the mechanism of muscle contraction. This study aims to determine the accuracy of measurements of FWS with and without electromyograph. Methods: This research was a descriptive comparative study using purposive sampling methods. Measurements of FWS in an upright sitting position with and without electromyograph were done on 10 students of class 2008 from Faculty of Dentistry, UNPAD who met the criteria. Data were analyzed by t test statistics, showed that there were significant differences in the measurements with and without electromyography in upright sitting position. Results: The mean of FWS measured with electromyography was 2.38 mm with standard deviation of 0.44 mm, whereas the mean of FWS measured without electromyography was 1.69 mm with a standard deviation of 0.46 mm. Average FWS in men measured with electromyography was 2.51 mm with a standard deviation of 0.15 mm, whereas the mean without electromyography was 1.68 mm with a standard deviation of 0.43 mm. Average FWS in women measured with electromyography was 2.35 mm with a standard deviation of 0.49 mm, whereas the mean without electromyography was 1.69 mm with a standard deviation of 0.50 mm. Conclusion: The measurements of FWS with electromyograph in an upright seating position was greater than without electromyography.
The objectives of prostheses are to restore mastication force, improve esthetics and maintain gingival health. The construction and function of prosthesis restoration are mutually interdependent with condition of periodontal tissues. A properly constructed prosthesis is an integral phase of complete treatment of periodontal disease in order to maintain periodontal tissues health. This paper reports case of a man aged 47 years who came to Dental Specialist Clinic in Oral and Dental Hospital Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran with chief complaint of mobility in almost all his teeth and they seems to look longer. The patient has no systemic disease and did not want his teeth to be extracted. Clinical and panoramic radiographic and laboratoris examinations has been done. During treatment, oclusal adjustment and splinting had been done on tooth 33,34,35 and tooth 44,43 also tooth 43,42 splinting with composite. The following treatment was the acrylic removable partial denture for upper jaw while mandible was fitted a frame denture which functioned as a semi permanent splint. One month post treatment, patien felt comfort and the denture was well functioning.
