For every human being, career is essential in ensuring a better quality of life. This similarly applies to disabled people who are born with disabilities, be it physical, visual, sensory, intellectual or any other disabilities that make them face various challenges to ensure that they are able to obtain career opportunities appropriate to their abilities. This situation led to the need to conduct a study aimed at exploring the best practices in the transition practice to career in terms of student development, especially students with disabilities from the perspective of lecturers at Selayang Community College who are involved in teaching the Special Skills Certificate Program. Qualitative approach with case study design was used in this research. The researcher used the in-depth interview method using semi structural interview questions to collect data. For the purpose of selecting respondents, the researcher used a purposive sampling technique involving three lecturers. The findings show that elements such as the teaching of living skills, careerrelated teaching and working experience are among the best practices that need to be applied effectively in the implementation of a career transition so that these special need students are adequately equipped to go to work. At the end of the research, researchers also suggested several other approaches for further research in the area of career transition.
This study aims to identify the effects of Bilingual Approach (BA) on the teaching of Malay language for deaf student in comprehension skills and effect of deafness level to comprehension acquisition. The study was conducted through quasi-experimental comparison between the use of Bilingual Approach (Experimental Group) and the use of Manually Coded Malay (Control Group). Changes in the Malay language skills between the two groups are identified through text comprehension. The study involves 64 hearing impaired students from primary school aged 11 to 12 years as subject sample in Malaysia. There are 32 students for the Experimental Group and 32 students for the Control Group. Data for the overall skills performance were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA calculations. The findings indicate that the overall achievement for Experimental Group is significantly higher with the use of Bilingual Approach [F dk(1,63)=113.501. p=<0.01] as compared to the Control Group. The results also show significant difference between mildly deaf students and severely deaf students with the value of t (63) =13.97, p<0.05. There is a need for more comprehensive studies to be carried out at a higher level in order to further explore the outcome of Bilingual Approach to language comprehension among students with hearing impairment.
The education system in Malaysia has undergone a process of transformation. Recently, mobile learning (m-learning) has become a trend in education in this country. Face-toface teaching and learning have shifted to online. However, research on the use of Mobile Learning (M-Learning) is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to identify the readiness of teachers towards the use of M-Learning for dyslexia students in terms of (i) Possibilities, (ii) Benefits, (iii) Preferences and (iv) External Influencers. Furthermore, this study also aims to identify the differences between teachers' readiness and gender towards M-Learning for dyslexia students. A total of 172 teachers throughout Malaysia have participated in this quantitative study. This online survey uses the Mobile Learning Readiness Survey (MLRS) instrument. The analysis methods in the research are mean, standard deviation and t-test. The data obtained were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23.0. Overall, the study's findings of teacher readiness towards M-Learning for dyslexia students are low. The result is low because of 1) teacher-centered, 2) lack of knowledge about dyslexia, 3) lack of teachers' knowledge of pedagogical integration in m-learning, and 4) lack of dyslexia-related training. In addition, the findings also show that there is no difference significant difference between teacher readiness and gender. Thus, this study shows that teachers in Malaysia need training and courses related to M-learning and Dyslexia. This action can improve the quality of teacher pedagogy and academic performance among dyslexia students. Contribution/ Originality: The paper's primary contribution is finding that the Ministry of EducationMalaysia needs to provide training related to pedagogy using M-learning and dyslexia. It can ensure that the online teaching process for dyslexia students can run smoothly and effectively.
The issue of sexuality education is not a new thing in today's education. However, the implementation of sexuality education or talking about sexuality is a controversial issue and considered sensitive by some. This is because the term 'sex' carries different connotations to some people, and this is still considered a stigma by our society. Malaysia society is generally negatively prejudiced on the issue of the implementation of sexuality education for students with learning difficulties. The purpose of this study was to identify teachers' perceptions of the challenges of sexuality education delivery. This study uses a qualitative approach, and three study participants were selected in a school in the district of Kuala Selangor. The instrument used in this study was a semi -structured interview. Data obtained through interviews will be transcribed. The results of this study found that teachers argued that the challenges of sexuality education delivery consisted of no specific guidelines, less skilled teachers, students with various disabilities and parental and community acceptance. Implications from this study, it was found that teachers' perception of sexuality education is positive, but the upper party needs to make a specific guideline in addition to providing training to teachers.
The development in today's education has made the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) a necessity, especially in generating skillful and trained workers who may enhance the country's international industrial competitiveness. Numerous institutions have gained recognition from the Department of Skills Development as recognized centers to provide skills trainings that offer Malaysian Skill Certificate for courses as listed by National Occupational Skills Standard. These institutions become a platform for individuals from various backgrounds (including the disabled) to prepare themselves for their career advancement. To those disabled individuals, having a career is essential as to ensure their own life survival, besides meeting their life aims. Therefore, through the Malaysian Plan of Action for People with Disabilities 2016-2022, the effort of Social Welfare Department Malaysia to empower the career transition program in educational institutions, particularly in providing skills training vividly portrays the important role of educators in guiding the disabled to create their career path.
