Los medios son uno de los principales agentes creadores, difusores, amplificadores y legitimadores del discurso social de las migraciones. Para estudiar la alteridad desde la representación mediática de las migraciones y la ayuda al desarrollo, nos fijaremos en las expresiones que polarizan el discurso.Nosotros, Occidente vs. los otros, migrantes. Los primeros, salvadores, receptores de migrantes y donantes de ayuda. Los segundos, a su vez, divididos: migrantes económicos, irregulares y criminalizados vs. refugiados, vulnerables, agentes pasivos y dignos de ayuda y acogida.Relacionando la campaña ‘La rutina es fantástica’ (ACNUR, 2014) con el rescate del Aquarius y el Spiderman francés, analizaremos la legitimación del discurso mediático basado en una alteridad sostén del ‘orden’ social que justifica prácticas discriminatorias que fomentan el rechazo.
This text analyzes the treatment of migration in the Spanish press – particularly in El País and El Mundo – during the first few months of the pandemic, focusing specifically on the arrival of undocumented migrants. The study investigates the terminology used to refer to these people, the ways in which these social events are related and, in general, the type of images and discourses projected. The methodology used is critical analysis of the discourse presented in the aforementioned national newspapers, which have high readership figures, paying close attention to matters of otherness, identity, and construction of difference. Articles from the local press have also been analyzed, due to the low number of searches located in the major newspapers considered in this study. The analysis shows that, even though undocumented migration is still conceptualized as a problem, discourses are also being generated portraying the immigrant as a victim, especially because their situation highlights the limitations and inconsistencies of the State. The crisis experienced due to Covid-19 also turns foreigners into a resource and immigration into an opportunity, in a context in which the pandemic is thought of as a time to reconfigure previous problems.

Se trata de un artículo de opinión en el que cuestiono la instrumentalización de la migración, desde un planteamiento que emerge de la perspectiva utilitarista, desde la que se olvida la condición humana y, sin embargo, se enfatiza la desigualdad social
Para poner de manifiesto cómo se construye el fenómeno migratorio entre África y Europa, y más concretamente, entre Senegal y España, nos hemos servido del análisis crítico del discurso de los medios de comunicación, dos españoles y dos senegaleses. Nos parece relevante cómo se comunican las migraciones, tanto en los Estados receptores como en aquellos emisores y/o de tránsito. Así, hemos prestado atención a la conformación de los imaginarios existentes respecto al continente europeo: en algunos casos, como ‘ElDorado’, el destino deseado por las personas migrantes y donde piensan que podrán cumplir aquellas expectativas que les lleva a migrar; y, en otros, como ‘Europa Fortaleza’, un destino inalcanzable. Con ello, pretendemos dar a conocer discursos recurrentes en las noticias de prensa que representan mediáticamente las migraciones acontecidas entre estas dos sociedades.
