In this paper a novel and robust lighting controller with green soul has been presented. The GreenSoul-ed device is a fully autonomous and automated controller, which can control the lights in a building space without compromising users' comfort preferences. It can automatically dim the lights achieving users' preferences in real-time through a proportionalintegral-derivative (PID) controlling mechanism. To this end, it is equipped with a luminance sensor, as well as with embedded intelligence, while the processing and the decision making is performed on the controller (FoG computing). Furthermore, it supports a variety of functionalities, such as profiles, schedules, timezones, etc., while it is fully parameterized through its web interface. The preliminary experimental results has shown that the proposed GreenSoul-ed lighting controller can achieve more than 75% electricity savings of lighting in a building.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
