ABSTRACT Recently, technology is a part of every ones’ life. This case also influences the education. Right now, teachers also involve technology in their teaching. This research aimed at finding the answer of to what extend English teachers at Islamic senior high schools in Nganjukhave used Information and Communication Technology in their teaching, teachers’ perception, and the problems they faced. The data were collected from English teachers who joined MGMP; a kind of English teachers’ organization for English teachers professional development in Nganjuk. The method used in this research is qualitative. This research is a kind of survey design. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. The finding of this research revealed that majority of English teachers have used ICT in their teaching eventhough they did not use them optimally due to some problems, the data shows that 43% of the participants have used ICT, while 39% of them just sometimes use it, and 18% of them do not use it. The next finding is about teachers’ perception. This research showed that teachers have good perception about the use of ICT, 73% of the participants agreed that the use of ICT can make students more active in the classroom. The common problems they faced were the lack of facility and access, and lack of competence in using the technology. It is suggested that the school stakeholders evaluate the policy about the use of ICT in their schools. Then, English teachers’ organization trough MGMP should be optimized to upgrade teachers’ capability in using ICT for their teaching. Key words : technology, English , Islamic Senior High Schools.
Since the present of Corona virus, all aspects of human live are changed. This also happened in education field. Because of this pandemic, students have to do online learning. They can not go to school for the healthy problem reason. This research aimed to find the answer of two research questions. The first is about the students’ problem in having online learning during the pandemic, and the second is the students point of view about the platform used in online learning. The data were collected from the students of MAN 2 Nganjuk, academic year 2020/2021. The method of research used is qualitative. Questionnaire was used to collect the data. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. The result of this research revealed that the main problem faced by students in having online learning during the pandemic is in understanding the material, this problem is agreed by 59% of the respondent. Then, 23% of the respondent complained about many tasks that they have to finish. Further more 10% of the students think that they have problem in economy field about the quota. The next problem faced by the students of MAN 2 Nganjuk is about time, 6% of the respondents complain about this, and 2% of the participants complain about the way to send their task. The next result of this research is students point of view about the platform used in online learning. According to them the favorable platform to be used in online learning, the first is google classroom, this platform is loved by 52% of the respondents. Then, 39% of the respondents choose whatsapp, those are two most favorable platform loved by the students to be used in teaching learning process during the pandemic. In addition these two platforms are also the platforms that are mostly used by teachers in delivering the materials. For teaching learning process during the pandemic time, it is suggested that teachers give more motivation to the students so that they can become active learners and learn from any sources.
In teaching reading, especially for senior high school students, they have to master high reading skills such as inferential, evaluative and critical reading. To reach this purpose, many teachers ask the students to read silently through skimming or scanning. However, some researches have proven that using reading aloud in teaching reading can improve students vocabulary and make students idea sharpener in finding detail information of the text. in addition, reading aloud is related a lot with reading comprehension. That is why it is important to know whether or not reading aloud is needed for teaching reading for senior high school. The aim of this research is to answer a research question, it is about whether or not reading aloud can improve students’ reading ability. The method used in this research is quantitative. The data used in this research is the result of pre-test and post-test of experimental and control class which are taken from the twelve grade students of MAN 2 Nganjuk, Academic year 2022/2023. The result of this research shows that reading aloud can improve the students’ reading ability, or on the other word, there is a significance different of the students’ score after being taught by using reading aloud strategy. The next research about this strategy for higher students of EFL with different type of text is needed so it can be used as the references for teachers to improve their strategy for teaching reading.
