A comparison of velocity(-derived) quantities is made in the slipstream of a turboprop-equipped transport aircraft between phase-locked experimental Particle Image Velocimetry data and unsteady Reynolds averaged NavierStokes calculations. Velocity results indicate a high level of agreement between the numerical and experimental results. In addition to velocity vector data, other derived quantities, such as vorticity, allow a verification and validation of the modeling in Computational Fluid Dynamics. Although a good agreement is achieved, future needs for the comparison and validation of computational (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and experimental (Particle Image Velocimetry) data are highlighted.
