The aim of this research is forwarded for assessment of provision possibilities of the multi-componential and heterogeneous services in the fast-changing topology of cargo transportation processes. The mobile intelligent services in current transport means require the development of complex infrastructure for multi-compositional service support. Our objectives are related to the investigation in data-transfer capabilities for heterogeneous service support, which is offering some improvements for developing the infrastructure of transportation of vehicles and helping in the administration of transport processes. This research aims to develop an approach for the assessment of infrastructure for sustainable management of cargo transportation processes by roads. Such assessment is multi-layered by including the management possibilities of cargo transportation logistic processes and electronic (smart, mobile) services using current innovative software and hardware of information communication technologies (ICT). Special attention is paid for road safety, more environment cleanable, and paperless management by assessing the integration of potentials and prospects of wireless, vehicle ad-hoc communication networks (VANET), and other communication possibilities. Some requirements are revealed for such type of infrastructure for the provision of heterogeneous services. The results of the development of infrastructure demonstrate the capacities of the potential of wireless networks for the provision of high-level of multi-component, heterogeneous services.
Our research is devoted to development of information infrastructure for e-service semiautomatic provision by using distributed data warehouses (DWs) of water protection domain. Development of software for semi-automatic service provision is based on artificial planner and structure of goals adapted for specialized needs of end users. Such e-service preparation mechanism can work under the unified coherent framework for solving the environment protection problems by evaluation of the processes of water consumption and contamination. The possibilities of integration of distributed DWs of water management sector into web portal meeting the requirements of conceptual interoperability are presented. Design approach is based on development of decision support system (DSS) that is designed as multilayered system with multi-componential, interoperable structure of databases (DBs), which are under responsibility of different public administration institutions such as European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET) and national environment protection agencies. The infrastructure of EIONET is used for supporting and improving data and information flows. The Water resource management information system (WRMIS) became the kernel component of DSS. WRMIS prototype facilitates data flows between the institutions and gives access to data for relevant institutions and the public providing e-services using proposed DSS. The research investigations are made according to the requirements of European Union Water Framework Directive, Sustainable Development Strategy and ReportNet as the EIONET infrastructure for supporting and improving data and information flows. Additional means are integrated in the structures of DSS as knowledge representation techniques based on conceptual schemas, data flow diagrams, and decision-making rules. The on-line management techniques are based on assurance of interoperability by using Open Web Platform W3C standards for web service development, such as XML, SOAP, HTTP, etc.
Our research concerns the development of a unified coherent framework for evaluating water contamination processes and solving environment protection problems according to sustainable development requirements. The research investigations are made according to the requirements of the European Union (EU) Water Framework Directive and Sustainable Development Strategy. The article describes the decision support processes, based on integration of distributed data warehouses that are on the responsibility of different institutions. The Water Resource Management Information System became the kernel component of a decision support system. We analyse the possibilities of composing e-services in a semi-automatic way for decision support by analysing data processes in the water management sector. We would like to show the possibilities of integrating of data into a web portal from the distributed databases of the water management sector. The information infrastructure of e-service provision is constructed by ensuring the requirements of interoperability. The composition mechanisms of e-service are based on SOA, i.e. service-oriented architecture, and the Goal-Based Service Framework idea. The results are demonstrated on wastewater discharges from farms and household production into surface waters of Lithuanian districts during the period of 2003–2012 years. The water resource management domain specification is based on the goal-based service ontology.
The problems of developing online decision support systems concern the complexity of the transportation management processes, the multi-dimensionality of data warehouses (DWs), and the multi-criteria of decision making. Such issues arise in the management processes by supporting them with adaptable information and communication infrastructure for the management of the freight’s transportation processes. Our research domain involves the assurance of infrastructure for the provision of smart services for the operative management of multi-modal transportation of freights under the conditions of the heterogeneity of communication channels and multi-criteria decision support. The complexity of managing multi-modal transportation processes raises some problems for ensuring the infrastructure for finding more optimal management solutions by the requirements of green development. This research aims to develop the approach for providing the infrastructure of intelligent smart services for adaptable implementation in management processes of online multi-modal freight transportation. The objectives are forwarded to construct the multi-criteria decision-making components and integrate them into the multi-layered, computer-based information management of intelligent systems. We present the steps of extension of the structure of the knowledge-based system with a multi-criteria decision support method, and the possibilities to work under the conditions of wireless networks and the recognition of context-aware situations. The results are demonstrated for the analysis of alternatives by assessing the multi-modal transportation corridors between the East and West regions of Europe, and the opportunities to evaluate them for more effective managerial perspectives under sustainable development requirements.
