Simulation provides a safe, controlled environment for learning. Using faculty-led role modeling during simulation as a classroom learning experience provides an opportunity for both inductive and reflective learning. Role modeling occurs when a behavior or skill is demonstrated and then duplicated by an observer. Inductive learning and reflection in faculty-led simulations allow the student an opportunity to observe behaviors and create new knowledge by using prior and newly presented knowledge. This innovation brings deeper level thinking into the classroom via simulation.

Simulation is a valuable tool in nursing education, including during preparation for students going on medical mission trips. Faculty assessed the learning and management of expectations of undergraduate nursing students who participated in a simulation prior to an international medical mission experience.
