The purpose of this research is to evaluate the technological pedagogical content knowledge of future biology teachers. In this study, the qualitative research method was used while making associations about the findings. Twenty (20) students studying in the biology teaching department of various universities in Kazakhstan constitute the study group of the research. The data of the research were collected by semi-structured interview technique. Considering the purpose of the research, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was prepared. As a result of the research, it was determined that the majority of the pre-service teachers found themselves somewhat inadequate regarding their teaching skills by suitably combining technology and teaching approaches. The vast majority of pre-service teachers find themselves inadequate regarding their ability to use information and communication technologies as a tool for students to share their thoughts and ideas.

The modern paradigm of education development has new demands on the professional and personal traits of a teacher, in particular, the ability to organize research activity of schoolchildren and to support their interest in science. The research competence of future teachers is a key characteristic that provides these skills. Properly organized research activity of future science teachers contributes not only to their research competence development, but also to their self-confidence as a professional, and thus, supports their motivation for further improvement in the field of teaching. This article presents a developed model of a methodological system for organizing the research activity development in training the future biologists at the pedagogical university. Based on the model, we have developed a comprehensive program for student's research competence development, which was tested at two courses of a pedagogical university. Comparison of the nine experimental groups (220 students) and nine control groups (218 students) showed that our program designed to develop student's research competence is effective. The paper also discusses the conditions, under which the program is effective, in particular, the importance of continuing education of teacher educators, as well as the necessity of interaction between educational and scientific institutions.
The current situation in education is characterized by an increased role for the environmental dimension. The purpose of our research is to develop an experimental verification and an effective methodology for shaping the readiness of students of biology, for environmental and local study activities. The research involved theoretical and experimental teaching methods. The participants for the experiment consisted of 105 students in the experimental group and 98 students in the control group. As a result of experimental training, it turned out that we developed a model of the methodology for the formation of environmental and local study activities in the training of biologist students, in the system of advanced training of biologist specialists. The article has scientific interest to teachers and researchers of pedagogical universities who want to ensure an effective educational process.
