The study aimed at enhancing the understanding of SHS students in chemical formulae and nomenclature using locally constructed conceptual models. It was carried out in Offinso and Atebubu Colleges of Education. The research instrument used was pretest and protest on an experimental and control group with 200 students as sample size. Developmental research design with cluster and purposive sampling techniques were employed. Five research questions were formulated out of which four were modified into null hypothesis and was tested using 2-tailed t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The research results have showed that the use of conceptual models enhanced the understanding of Teacher-trainees in chemical formulae and nomenclature. Additionally, it was found out that the conceptual models had no influence on gender or cognitive capability. This emphasized that conceptual models should be used to assist the teaching and learning of chemical formulae and nomenclature.
The issue of leadership styles used by school heads and the academic performance of students has recently attracted the attention of the general public and people are exerting energies into research to find its courses and effects. Nkoranza-North district is selected as a result of the fact that the researcher works there and the districts also have two senior high schools for the study. Primarily, the study was to find out the courses and impact of leadership styles on teaching and learning outcomes in the Nkoranza-North district. The study covered a sample size of sixty (60) people comprises of Headmasters, selected teachers and selected students of the two. The researcher employed the descriptive method, while interview schedule and questionnaire were used togather the information. Frequencyand percentage were used to analyse the data. The study also looks at the various leadership styles employed by leaders some of which are Autocratic, Democratic and Laissez-faire. The findings of the study are discussed, conclusion draw and recommendations made.
Maladaptive behavior is arguably the most common disruptive behaviour among adolescents and in order to transform these students into productive members in the society, the need for quality education cannot be overrated. It is in this regard that this study seeks to examine the strategies that teacher use to manage maladaptive behaviours in Offinso Municipality. A quantitative approach and an explanatory research design was adopted to ensure that the right data is collected and the appropriate analytical techniques are used. Further, Krejcie and Morgan (1970) and stratified random sampling was used to select a total of 171 teachers from the three schools with the aid of questionnaire as the research instrument. All ethical issues were strictly adhered to ensure Full Corporation with the study. SPSS version 22 was used to code and capture the data collected. A combination of descriptive analysis and sequential linear regression was used to analyse the data. The results showed that the students of the three schools in the Offinso Municipality exhibit maladaptive behaviour and the teachers have adapted strategies that significantly manages the maladaptive behaviours. The factors influencing maladaptive behaviour in the adolescents includes parental, environmental and the school. For resource allocation and policy implications, management should first consider committing resources to enhancing the teacher’s strategy before considering the three category of factors influencing the maladaptive behaviour in the adolescent students. Further, management should engage the parents, the community leaders and government to develop strategies in mitigating maladaptive behaviour in adolescent students. The need for counselling service centres cannot be overrated besides orientation practices.
Teachers in Ghana have expressed a lot of dissatisfaction about the lack of human resource development, poor working conditions, poor remuneration and poor human relations. There are motivational strategies that motivate employees and improve their effectiveness. These motivational strategies, even though are in place, have had little impact on employees. This study was therefore carried out to identify the motivational strategies that are implemented in the Ghana Education Service with emphasis on Offinso College of Education [OCE] and their effectiveness towards performance. The researcher adopted purposive sampling to gather data from the administrative heads, convenient sampling technique for tutors as well as simple random sampling to gather data from nonteaching staff. The descriptive study design was adopted for the study with the case study approach been used. A sample size of one hundred and ten (110). The mixed study approach was used thus both qualitative and qualitative data were gathered from both primary and secondary sources of information. Questionnaires, focus group discussion as well as interview were the instruments used in the data gathering process. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS) which was presented with tables, frequencies and percentages and mean. The study found job security and job flexibility, opportunity for advancement and promotional opportunities were somehow strong motivational packages that exist in the college while communication gap, the lack of being duly recognized, lack of accommodation, job interference, and poor remuneration were some motivational challenges employees face that affect their effectiveness. The study therefore recommends the deepening and institution of more intrinsic and extrinsic motivational packages to enhance their effectiveness.
This study examined the influence of Career Self-Efficacy, Gender Stereotyping and Career Self-Concept on Sex-Typed career choices of students in the Asante Akim North Municipality. The descriptive, survey design using the quantitative approach was adopted for the study. Eight hundred (800) final year Senior High School Students (five hundred) (500) males and three hundred (300) females from the Asante Akim North Municipality were selected for the study using opportunistic and purposive sampling methods. Data were analyzed using various analytical techniques including multiple regression and t-tests. Among the present study’ findings were that Career Self-Efficacy was found to have more influence on the students’ Choice of Sex-Typed Career than Gender Stereotyping and Career Self-Concept. The present findings also suggested that the female students chose significantly more female-dominated Careers than their male counterparts. Similarly, students from female-dominated families chose more female-denominated careers than those from male-dominated families. Among the recommendations was that since it was found that students in the present study appeared to sex-stereotype careers, more guidance and counselling co-ordinators should be trained in order to counsel students to choose career according to their abilities and not their sex. The findings are discussed in relation to pervious findings and recommendations made based on the present findings.
