The radioactivity concentrations of 40K, 232Th and 238U in 20 specimens of commercial flooring materials used in Karbala governorate, were measured using (HPGe) system. The results of measurements have shown that highest value of specific activity of for 238U which was 294.570Bq/kg (granite; Vietnamese origin), 232Th which was 88.808Bq/kg (granite; Italian origin) and 40K which was 284.580Bq/kg (marbles; Iranian origin), which were less than the worldwide average (UNSCEAR,2000). The various hazard indices were also calculated to assess the radiation hazard. It was found that none of the results exceed the recommended limit value. All specimens in this paper are within the recommended safety limit and do not present huge radiation dangers.
In the present work, the specific activity of different types of milk powder samples from various foreign origins in the local markets was studied. For this purpose, (HPGe) detector was used. The results showed that Miedo sample (Jordanian origin) had the highest quantities of AU, ATh and Ak equal to respectively (18.690, 25.070 and 183.500) Bq/kg respectively. All the specific activity and parameters are less than their corresponding allowed limits, and hence no health risk they possess.
Twelve cigarette tobacco samples of various brands and origins were gathered from local markets of Iraq. . The CRn was determined utilizing CR-39 track detectors which were exposed to the various brands of cigarettes tobacco for 45 days. The results demonstrated that the highest value of 222Rn concentration was )157 Bq/m3( in Macbeth cigarette sample of Brazilian origin and the lowest value of CRn was (76.3 Bq/m3 (in Sumer cigarette sample of Iraqi origin, with an average value of (106.53±22.3 Bq/m3). The outcomes have demonstrated that cigarettes of a Brazilian origin contain higher CRn than other studied samples, however, it is still less than some other average values given in the literatures.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
