Online learning is one of the alternatives that can overcome the COVID-19 pandemic that is endemic in 2021. This is very troubling to the community, especially disrupting learning in schools. Students who want to learn are constrained by the outbreak of the disease, so solutions are needed to overcome these problems. The purpose of this study was to get an overview of the implementation of online learning at SMA Negeri 4 Medan as an effort to suppress the spread of COVID-19 in school. The research subjects are students of the Biology Education Study Program. Data collection is done by interviewing through zoom cloud meeting. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles & Huberman interactive analysis technique. Weak supervision of students, limited signal in remote areas and high internet costs are challenges in online learning. However, many benefits can be obtained from online learning, including increasing learning independence, interest and motivation, and the courage to express ideas and questions. The results showed that: (1) students had the basic facilities needed to participate in online learning; (2) online learning has flexibility in its implementation and can encourage the emergence of self-regulated learning and motivation to be more active in learning, and (3) distance learning encourages the emergence of social distancing behavior and minimizes the emergence of student crowds which are considered to reduce the potential for spreading COVID-19 in the campus environment. The researchers’ aim for this research was to determine the significance of using crossword puzzles in developing students' vocabulary at Pangeran Antasari Medan's seventh grade. The quantitative design was used in this study. This study's population consisted of 50 students. Furthermore, the researchers used 50 students as a sample and divided them into two different groups, experimental and control groups. The study's instrument was a fill-in-the-blanks (Pre-test and Post-test) or crossword puzzle. Based on the clarification over, the author analyzed the score utilizing the T-test equation, and the result was T-observed was 2.92 and t-table was 1,684, indicating that T-observed was more prominent than T-table. At the critical level, p= 0.05 and df= nx=ny-2 = 48. This implies that Crossword Puzzle Strategy features a noteworthy affect on students' learning.
This paper aims at stressing current issue on how to enhance pronunciation skills through the phonetic method. The design applied action research in a classroom where there are two cycles conducted after primarily doing pre-cycle. The techniques to collect the data were an oral test, interviews with students and teacher, and field notes. The findings showed that the first cycle did not significantly enhance students’ skills in pronunciation because, among 24 students, 16 students passed the test with the category of a good score and sufficient. Some students were still confused with the pronunciation instruction and failed to test underscore 60. Thus, It needs the second cycle to reach the goal of the research. The second cycle pointed out that 19 students enhanced their pronunciation skills. This research furthermore gives some contribution. First, the students will have the confidence to use English without any affection to be awkward, nervous through having an interaction with each other and make them able to communicate well. Then, in language learning, it provides both practical and theoretical teaching ideas to the prospective teachers to help and to assess their students for enhancing accurate pronunciation.
This article dealt with surface taxonomic errors of using appropriate verbs in writing descriptive text. The objectives are to investigate the types of common errors done by EFL learners by describing the dominant errors and also to elaborate on the reason why the learners did the errors in the descriptive text. The subjects of this research consist of 30 Senior High learners from some schools as the representative samples. Descriptive Qualitative Method with a case study design applies to the research. In collecting the data, essay tests and interviews were used. Findings show that there were some types of surface taxonomic errors such as misformation with 110 (60,11%) errors, omissions with 45 (24,59%) errors, addition with 16 (8,74%) errors, and misordering with 12 (6,55%) errors. Thus, misformation is the dominant type found. All of the errors committed to 183 of using appropriate verbs in writing descriptive text. Beyond the dominant errors such as misformation and omission, the errors occurred because some learners put the wrong tenses and verbs. Furthermore, the learners had less comprehension in structures related to the organization of the descriptive text.
This study deals with gender toxicity in language communication. The aim of this study is to describe toxic language that is accepted by male and female in circle communication. Descriptive qualitative is used as research method of this study. This study described the result of society language communication recorder. The result, there are two kinds of toxic language, toxic muscularity and toxic femininity language that was accepted by male and female in language communication.
