This article is a n overview of M a n y / 3 7 0 , a n IBM S y s t e m / 3 7 0 parallel processor prototype built J O T I/Ointensive app1ication.s. T h e prototype consists of 8 processor nodes, 128 s m a l l disk drives, a n d a host computer. T h e nodes have a high performance disk I/O capability which distinguishes M a n y / 3 7 O f r o m other multiprocessors.
