The structure of boron-oxygen groups in InBO 3 single crystals (calcite type) is investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The fundamental vibrational modes of indium orthoborate are analyzed using detailed studies of polarized Raman spectra. The polarization and relative intensities of lines in the spectra of InBO 3 are shown to differ markedly from those in the spectra of other calcite-structure crystals (LuBO 3 and CaCO 3 ) and alkali and alkaline-earth orthoborates and their melts. This effect is tentatively attributed to the large covalent contribution to the energy of bonding between In 3+ and the oxygens of the [BO 3 ] groups.
ChemInform is a weekly Abstracting Service, delivering concise information at a glance that was extracted from about 100 leading journals. To access a ChemInform Abstract of an article which was published elsewhere, please select a “Full Text” option. The original article is trackable via the “References” option.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
