The correct expression for the transverse magnetoelectric voltage coefficient isIt reduces to Eq. ͑1͒ for m q xx ϭ m q yx . For lanthanum strontium manganite ͑LSMO͒, our measurements at room temperature of the in-plane magnetostriction ( yx ) perpendicular to the applied magnetic field direction yielded q yx values that are negative, but much smaller than q xx . Thus the theoretical values of ␣ E,zx are a factor of 2 smaller than the values in Fig. 9. The correction, however, does not alter the observed discrepancy between data and theory, and the conclusions drawn in the studies remain the same.
