Shalya Tantra is a significant branch of Ayurveda. The name of the sage-physician Susruta is well known in the field of surgery. Many surgical and para-surgical techniques have been described for the management of various diseases. Vrana is one of them which have been managed by a human being from starting of civilization. Under the circumstances, the first thing which the man came across was the injury from different sources which was causing Vrana (wound). The wound is very common in both developed and developing countries. It is a breach in the normal tissue continuum, resulting in a variety of cellular & molecular sequel. A wound is a major health problem because the incidence of severe complications is high & financial resources are limited. Vrana is an important chapter of Shalya Tantra due to its involvement in many surgical conditions. This, phenomena of Vrana is not only limited to the cutaneous lesion but may also extend up to muscles blood vessels, ligaments, bones, joints, visceral organs and other vital parts of the body. The diagnostic criterion has been dealt in a very detailed manner by Acharya Susruth. In this article, efforts have been made to throw light on the pathology of Vrana, its classification, diagnosis, and it’s healing.
The challenges of COVID-19 pandemic not only calls for rapidly changing responses with time, but also requires clarity among healthcare professionals about setting protocols at all levels and locations. Moreover these guidelines must be clear enough to be clearly understood by all stakeholders and should include all the modifications required to count for local needs and availability (or still better- paucity) of resources. On one hand all platforms of knowledge circulation are flooded with information, it is difficult to pick the time and place appropriate set of guidelines which are not only endorsed by appropriate authorities but also practically possible with current ground realities in terms of supplies and local needs. This work essentially dwells on an endeavour to go through all recent works on the topic and compile the best possible set of guidelines require for the department of Shalyatantra (Surgery) with corona relate concerns. After an extensive online search for the above mentioned requirements the relevant excerpts are compiled. Although all efforts are made to search for most recent twists till date it is almost sure that these will lose relevance with time and will need continuous update.
Bhagandara (Fistula-in-ano) is well known cause of morbidity in all ages, gender and socio-economic status which has a promising treatment available with Ayurvedic practice of Ksharasutra (medicated setons). This is proven to have relatively lower rates of complications and recurrences. The standardised form of Apamarg Ksharasutra (Snuhi, Apamarg and Haridra churan) is been used for long and still considered the gold standard. However, difficulty in procurement, non-perennial availability of few of its constituents and challenging technique especially in complex cases has always encouraged the practitioners and researchers to come up with trial of other ingredients as per old literature like Sushruta Samhita and to modify the application techniques. This is an endeavour to venture into literature and compile such promising efforts.
