The use of indwelling ureteric stents, either as definitive treatment for obstructive uropathy or as a temporary adjunct to urinary tract surgery, has been increasing in the last few years. We have used it to support renal tract surgery for varying pathological conditions in which post‐operative stricturing, particularly at the vesicoureteric junction, might occur. We have also tried to use such stenting in an attempt to treat a minor degree of obstruction, with a few complications. However, 3 patients have developed calculi associated with their stents.
