A continuous wave (cw) and a pulsed-gated laser fluorescence systems were used to measure fluorescence spectra of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) thermally vaporized using an electrothermal atomizer. The cw laser was a Helium-Cadmium (He-Cd) laser and the pulsed laser was a flashlamp dye laser. The detector was an intensified photodiode array. Individual PAHs as well as PAHs produced by vaporizing crude oils, particulate matter and other samples were studied by this approach. Fingerprinting was performed by measuring three-dimensional plots of fluorescence intensity versus emission wavelength versus evolution temperature.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
