© 2017 International Formulae Group. The aim of this study was to explain the influence of the concentration of the catalyst (TiO 2 ) and of water matrix composition on the photocatalytic degradation of 5-flurouracil (20 mg.L -1 ). For this purpose, GUETTIA et al. / Int. J. Biol. Chem. Sci. 11(3): 1373-1385, 2017 1374 photocatalytic tests were carried out with suspensions of titanium dioxide at concentrations between 0.1 to 1.0 g.L -1 in ultrapure water and tap water (water with high calcium hardness: with a hydrotimetric parameters > 35° F). The results showed that more than 80% after 120 min of irradiation (UV-A) in ultra-pure at concentrations of 0.1 g L -1 to 1 g L -1 of TiO 2 . However, this rate is 33% and 75% for these same concentrations in tap water matrices. The high concentration of bicarbonate ions in tap water (HCO 3 -) is probably responsible for the decrease in the observed velocity, as the bicarbonate ions act as radical traps. The results in the wastewater matrice are same with those obtained in the tap water. The pH variation from 3 to 10 showed the optimum rate at pH 5.8.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
