This paper presents a prototype of three phase hybrid flux motor (HFM) with a power rating of 1.2 kW that validates the concept of hybrid flux topology (combining longitudinal and transverse flux topologies). Conventional dq-axis model of three phase electric motor is based on rotating magnetic fields, which cannot be applied to the HFM due to its pulsating magnetic field. In this work, a dq-axis model is derived for HFM that can be applied to any pulsating magnetic field motors. With the developed dq-axis model, a field oriented control (FOC) is simulated for the HFM. This simulation details the design, tuning, and stability of PI controller using step response, root locus, and Bode plot. A step-by-step process of experimental implementation of FOC is elaborately discussed in this article, which will be of interest to engineers working on motor control. Based on the FOC developed, a load test is performed on the HFM and compared to the finite element analysis results. Laser cutting is used in the fabrication of the HFM prototype to make stator and rotor core laminations. This paper explores the effect of laser cutting on the performance of HFM prototype.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
