This article examines how far microfinancing services positively affect the empowerment of Nepali women living in the eastern part of Nepal. A purposive sampling method was used and responses of 97 women were collected through structured questionnaires. The women were using microfinance services on their own and at least from the last three years. Results indicate that the use of microfinance services (credit and saving) helps women to empower. Easy access to financial services and satisfaction with the loan payment period causes no difference in the improvement of women’s empowerment. Saving service is significantly associated with women’s household decision-making, major decision-making in the domestic context, and availability of basic household needs. Microfinance services contribute to women’s socio-economic empowerment and their children’s education.
The study intends to assess the 3-dimensional organizational commitment and its effects on socio-demographic factors such as gender, age, and tenure of Nepal Telecom employees. Random sampling method proportionately to the job position level had been harnessed to collect primary data with survey method and ultimately, 322 samples were gathered. Analysis tools t-test, ANOVA, post hoc analysis harnessed to examine the objectives. The study results that age and work experience are significantly associated to employees’ normative commitment while higher working years of employees are different from less experiential employees in terms of overall commitment and continuance commitment.
The study attempts to explore the factors of work-life balance (WLB)amid the pandemic and the effects of these derived factors on the overall perception of WLB of bank employees. The quantitative research method was harnessed to explore the objectives. Employees of commercial banks serving in the Morang district, one of the 77 administrative units of Nepal, during the pandemic were the population of the study. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaires. Snowball and purposive sampling methods were implied to get the sample of 193 bank employees. The study extracted four factors; personal demand, family demand, work demand, and social demand dimensions of WLB duringCovid-19. And personal demand factor of WLB stood as the most significant out of the other two significant factors namely family and work demand factors to influence the overall perception of WLB amidst the pandemic. Employees’ self-care and self-development needs are to be incorporated while formulating policies of the organization and more specifically WLB during the traumatic conditions.
Background: Teachers are actors and thus play various roles and responsibilities in the classroom, school and entire community. Their commitment contributes to increasing the skills, knowledge, creativity, intelligence, devotion, and attitudes of the school community. The demographic heterogeneity of teachers affects not only performance but also thecommitment level of the school community. Objectives:The study aims to find the influence of socio-demographic variables on the organizational commitment of school teachers in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts. Methods: This study is quantitative and based on primary data. The study has employed a conclusive research design. The population of the study was secondary level teachers in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts, and a number of them were selected using the principles of purposive sampling. The size of the sample was 232. Results: The study reveals that affective, continuance, normative as well as overall commitment of teachers in school do not differs in terms of gender and education level. However, affective commitment increases as an increase in service years whereas continuance commitment increases at the beginning years of service for five years. However,between five to ten years, it lessens.Again after ten years, it increases if the teacher is involvedin the same job for one decade. Conclusions: The commitment of teachers is not affected by their gender and education level. However, the years in service spent by teachers influence their affective and continuance commitment but not the normative commitment. Implications: The findings of this study can be useful for school administrators and policymakers to find the influence of demographic factors on the commitment of school teachers.
The study aims to examine the association between employment and the empowerment of Nepali currently married women. It harnesses women’s employment status and their empowerment; in terms of ‘household decision making’, ‘attitudes towards wife-beating’, and ownership of the house/land’ with the help of the Nepal Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2016 data set. Married women’s employment exhibits a significant association (0.05) with their socio-demographic characteristics, and empowerment variables as well. The employment status of married women influences their household decision-making, and attitudes towards wife-beating. The study adheres to the belief that employment accelerates women’s empowerment, still, it is complex to determine the strength of the relationship in between. Thus, based on the findings of the study, other variables and empowerment indicators are to be considered and analyzed further for concrete insights. So, employment cannot be assumed as a mere engine and an only instrument for empowering women.
