Magnetic properties D 9000Preparation, Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of Ruddlesden-Popper Phases La1.2Sr1.8Mn2-xRuxO7 (x: 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5). -The title compounds are synthesized by solid state reactions of appropriate amounts of La2O3, SrCO3, Mn2O3, and RuO2 in several heating cycles. As revealed by powder XRD they crystallize in the tetragonal space group I4/mmm with Z = 2. 9 . -The title compound is prepared from mixture a of Sm 2 O 3 , BaCO 3 , and CuO in the molar ratio 1:4:2 (1000°C, 112 h). As revealed by powder XRD, Sm2Ba4Cu2O9 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4n2 with Z = 2. The main structural feature is the Cu-O sub-structure with Cu coordinated by five oxygen atoms forming elongated pyramids. The CuO5-polyhedra share two corners leading to infinite [CuO 3 O 2/2 ] chains.
