Wind-tunnel measurements of three components of mean wind and turbulence quantities, above a rigid threedimensional realization of ocean waves, are reported. Based on the measurements a model is proposed for the cross correlations between wind uctuations and the wave surface, including phase relations between the different components. The experiments are novel in the sense that spatial correlations are measured above a realistic multicomponent ocean-like wave surface, de ned through its energy spectrum. The relevance of the model to ows above moving water waves are discussed through comparisons with other experimental results, for both moving and stationary waves.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
